8. The Opportunity: Using AI in BD Healthcare
• Technology, and specifically the applica,on of Ar,ficial Intelligence (AI) can play an important role in
achieving health goals, bridging the gap between resource limita,ons and allowing con,nued
improvement in healthcare delivery.
• We see the poten,al for adap,ng and leveraging the rapid improvements in cogni,ve compu,ng and
AI to help deliver higher quality and more cost effec,ve health services in less developed countries
such as Bangladesh.
• In the case of Bangladesh, the number of trained medical personnel is too low for adequate coverage
of the whole popula,on. There are only around 3.6 physicians and 1 nurse per 10,000 individuals.
• This is aggravated by the geographical misdistribu,on of the staff, with only 16% of the doctors
opera,ng in rural facili,es.

PDK Checkup & Risk Assessment
Evaluates the chronic disease risk on the basis of the test values from PDK and medical ques,onnaire. The system categorizes the
health condi,on to 4 risk stages and reports the individual's health status. For the people with:
High health risk - the machine directs the pa,ent to see a doctor.
Moderate risk to low - the machine will advise the user to be healthier by commen,ng on their ac,vi,es, exercise rou,ne, diet,

34. Business-to-Business Strategy
While we believe that priori,zing a B2C strategy makes sense, we also plan to develop
customized B2B versions of the app for a number of target market segments:
1. Brac Health: We propose offering a Risk Assessment service throughout the BRAC network
ini,ally via the 97,000 BRAC health workers in both urban and rural areas using a newly
developed Portable Diagnos,c Kit (PDK) and a detailed ques,onnaire.
2. Pharmacists: A customised version of our mobile health app will be offered to pharmacists
along with PDKs, which would allow them to provide basic health advice and connect their
customers to doctors who can do video consulta,ons and give e prescrip,ons.
3. RMG Sector: We believe that if we can persuade global garment buyers to priori,se worker
health, then factory owners will become more enthusias,c about sponsoring and improving
their employees health. We also plan to offer health cer,fica,on for those factories that
have done the health risk screening.
