eveal,a Surrey-based SME with
around 30 employees,has been
providing body-worn video systems
for nearly a decade and is responsible
for pioneering technologies including the RS2-
X2 body camera – a unique body-worn device
with a front-facing screen,fully articulated
camera head and AES256 encryption.
A large proportion of the UK’s police
forces, prisons and local authorities as well as
the private security sector use Reveal
devices, with the recorded footage from the
cameras increasingly being used as evidence
in court cases. Reveal has built a solid
network across the UK and internationally.
Reveal Marketing Communications
Manager Ben Read explained: “Around three-
quarters of the UK’s police forces use our
cameras. Hampshire Constabulary is taking the
national lead on body-worn cameras as they
personally issue 2300 Reveal devices in the year
to come, in addition to the 500 they already
have deployed.
“Two other police forces who have
significant projects with us are Thames Valley
Police and Staffordshire Police; they have
hundreds of our cameras and use DEMS, our
digital evidence management software.”
Reveal recently won the East Midlands
Strategic Commercial Unit (EMSCU) Body
Worn Video Framework, which all UK police
forces can now purchase from.
Mr Read commented: “A major part of
Reveal’s success lies in making products that
add value to our customers’ experience. We
don’t try to cram every new technology into
our products; instead we focus on the end users
and think about what they actually need.”
This approach has also proved popular
with Reveal’s overseas clients, with 30
different countries using the company’s
body-worn technology.
Mr Read added: “Our operations are
growing in Asia, with users in both the Hong
Kong and Singapore Police as well as a recent
tender win for 100 cameras in India. Reveal
also now supplies cameras to a number of
police departments in the United States with
recent deployments in California,Texas, Illinois,
Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Georgia and Florida.”
Overseas clients have been a great boost
to Reveal; Mr Read explained the learning
curve that Reveal undertook when extending
business abroad.
Leading body-worn video specialists Reveal were recently presented
with the Security Innovation Award 2015 at a ceremony hosted by
security trade organisation ADS Group.MOD DCB features writer Julie
Shennan caught up with Reveal Marketing Communications Manager
Ben Read to discover the secret behind the company’s success.

He said:“Reveal is the market leader in the
UK,and as previously mentioned we’ve
achieved this by spending a lot of time with
our end users and assessing our customers’
needs.
“Reveal’s products translate well abroad
because they address the core human need
for protection.Although cultures are different,
people’s basic needs are the same.”
Reveal also collaborates with UK Trade
& Investment (UKTI) and in 2014 was
awarded a grant to support the
company’s further export expansion.
Another recent award boosting
Reveal’s profile was the Security
Innovation Award 2015, presented by
leading defence and aerospace trade
association ADS Group. Reveal took the
prize at an award ceremony held at the
annual Security & Policing event in
Farnborough on 10 March.
Mr Read said:“It was a great honour for
Reveal to win the ADS Security Innovation
Award. ADS is a prestigious organisation
and it is a great credit to our company to be
partnered with them.
“Reveal is committed to innovation
moving forward.We understand that body-
worn video technology is a big investment
and that customers buy it with the next five
years in mind. So we are committed to
providing the best technology available in
the years to come.”

He said: “We usually conduct trials with
our clients to find a bespoke solution for
them. Reveal has a lot of cameras and
camera mounting options in its range that
can be adapted to fit different clients’
uniforms and body types.
“We also have a wide range of
deployment options for our digital evidence
management software. Some customers
just want to monitor DEMS on a laptop
while others prefer to have it connected
across a network or to a cloud, so we strive
to understand these different requirements
and have developed solutions to
accommodate them.”
As well as its flexible approach to
product design, Reveal takes a flexible
approach to its customer interaction.
Mr Read said: “Bespoke solutions have
become more and more possible as
companies boost their communication with
customers. At Reveal we utilise social media
as a channel to interact with our customers.
We have quite a good relationship with
many of our police force customers and
keep in touch with them via Twitter.
“This increased communication allows us
to better listen to and understand the
customer’s needs.”
Mr Read concluded:“Reveal’s slogan is
‘With you on the front line’, and we put that
into our everyday practice.We use
technology but we put people at the centre
of everything we do.”
