INTRO
WELCOME
Welcome to Mountain Top 2017! This year, the theme is “Wherever
the River Flows.” In John 7, Jesus says that everyone who believes in
Him would have rivers of living water, the Spirit, coming out of their
hearts.
This year at Mountain Top, we will explore what it means to respond
to this river inside of us; the river of water that will cause us never
to be thirsty again. Not only do we want the ability to recognize that
God, as the Spirit, is within us as living water, but that we may also
learn to respond to His moving and flowing out of us in a purposeful
way to others. We aspire to become vibrant seekers and responders
to the Spirit, no matter what environment we may find ourselves in.
Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

style
You ready? Think Haida Art meets Hawaiian island tribal tattoos
fused with a modern flair. (What the ... ?? ) To get a feel for what that
even means, check out some of the images below.
This style of tribal design
is known as “Haida Art.” This is the Hawaiian
island tribal style

INTRO
So basically, just tattoo everything with cool tribal artwork! Room
decorations, pamphlets, small group handouts .... feel free to add
some marginalia (it’s a real work; look it up) to whatever your heart
desires. Just follow the guidelines in the Design Elements section.
But first, on to the Icons and Logos!

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
There are many types of tribal styles,
some that fit our style, and others
that are outside. So here’s some “Do’s”
and “Don’ts” that will help match our
particular brand of tribal design.
Check it out!

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
>> DoN'T
• DON’T USE ANGULAR GEOMETRICS!
Basically that means no straight lines, if you can help it. It’s all about
Curves for MT. ;)

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
• DON’T USE AN IMPRECISE, HAND-DRAWN STYLE
This sort of artwork is typical of Aztec or African tribal designs.
It looks cool and gives a very authentic feel, but we’re going for
something with more precision.
12. < 1 2 >
DESIGN
ELEMENTS
• DON’T USE ANY SWIRLY OR FLORAL ELEMENTS
I know we just said to not use any angular geometrics, but on the
other side of the spectrum are the swirls, twirls, and flowers! Be
Goldilocks ... it’s gotta be juuuuust right!!!

ELEMENTS
>> DO!
• USE THE WINGLETS!
Ok, what does that mean??? Think of a curly brace, or leaf, or a
mustache!! It’s probably better just to show you...
“The Winglet”
Mustache? Eyebrows?
Hershey’s Kiss perhaps?
Put two of them together and
you get a pair of cool wings!

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
Use those winglets as your basic building
for all of your tribal drawings. Use them for
everything: trees, birds, fish, leaves, grass, sun
beams, ... really anything goes! They are quite
versatile once you get the hang of it!

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
• DO USE CIRCLES AND RECTANGLES AND OTHER BASIC
ELLIPTICAL SHAPES
Ain’t nothing wrong with the good ‘ol basics! Throw in some circles
for that extra tribal pizazz! When using rectangles, just add in some
curvy corners or lines and you’ll be good to go.

DESIGN
ELEMENTS
• DO USE SYMMETRYWHEN POSSIBLE
This goes along with the idea of being precise and all, but symmetry
is another feature of the smaller details in this tribal design.
Symmetry usually doesn’t fit within the broader picture, but for the
smaller elements, like the winglets, or ovals, that extra symmetry
will give it that extra bit of sparkle! Haida art, compared to the other
types of tribal art, is the most crisp and refined, with a sense of
elegance.

ICONS&
LOGOS
the icons
As always, we've got to have a central thematic graphic. Basically
what we’ve come up with is a tribal return of the Journeyman (2015)
taking to the river!! Use it in color or monocolor. Of course you’ve
got your pick of .ai, .eps, .png, PS custom shapes, and more. Take a
look!

FONTS
We’ve got some real cool font selections this year. So without further
ado...
DUAL
Use this font for the title and for any other minor headings. There
are currently two weights, DUAL 300, and DUAL 600. What
makes this so cool, is that there are a bunch of alternate glyphs for
each of the upper case letters. Check out some of the examples.

FONTS
RIVERFRONT
This is a Mountain Top first: Mountain Top’s first entirely original
font. It’s an uppercase font, with most of the standard glyphs
available. Just don’t get too fancy with the weird characters!
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ1234567890!@#$%^&*()<>?/|
Use this font for headings.
Zilla Slab
This might be another Mountain Top first, a slab serif font as the
standard paragraph font. It seems like an allusion to the Wild West
telegraph days with Cowboys and Indians! It come in five weights
plus italicized versions to go with each weight. Light, Light Italic,
Regular, Italic, Medium, Medium Italic, SemiBold, SemiBold Italic,
Bold, Bold Italic.

ASSETS
TEXTURES
There are a whole bunch of textures you can use in your creations.
Mostly leather and paper canvas textures. They work well when
you use them in Overlay or Burn blend modes, for you Adobe users
out there. The background of this stylesheet uses a texture called
Antique Indian Leather. Below are some other samples.

For Photoshop, there are some leather and scratched brushes
available. Helps add that little bit of grunge effect!
adobe creative cloud library
A new feature this year, is a dedicate Adobe Creative Cloud Library

including icons, logos, textures, brushes, and color swatches already
loaded into it so you can easily access any of these assets from your
preferred Adobe Creative Cloud application.
Goolge Drive Folder
Like previous years, all the assets are loaded into a Google Drive
folder public to anyone, so that anyone can use these assets in their
