Special duties and extra-curricular activities undertaken by the Teacher Candidate
NAPLAN supervision, DAV debating supervision, assistance with the School Play.
Julia attended part of the Learning Progress Interview evening for Years 7 to 9.
She participated in Year 10, 8 and 7 fieldwork days. On Year 8 fieldwork day she taught and supervised water testing. On
Year 7 fieldwork day she assisted with supervision and conducted a role play exercise.

Julia quickly established a good rapport with students. She has effective teaching skills and

Supporting Comment:
Julia has a good background in the topics covered. This was particularly evident for the Year 8 unit
on water and her knowledge of water testing techniques was of great assistance on the fieldwork
day . Her Science background also gave her good content knowledge for the Year 7 unit on
savanna environments. In terms of teaching other topics, I have no doubt that Julia would actively
research any content she does not know.

Julia is aware of important geography skills and was meticulous in her lesson planning. Julia used
a range of teaching strategies and resources. Her communication skills were very effective and
she was confident in the classroom.

Julia has shown effective classroom strategies to engage the students in learning activities. This
was also demonstrated on the fieldwork excursion activities that she was responsible for. She
coped well with the use of iPads at Year 8 level and made effective use of the interactive
whiteboard.

Julia carried out considerable assessment of student work at both levels. She was efficient in her
marking and quick to provide students with feedback on their progress. Detailed records of each
assessment task were kept. I was impressed by her formative assessment techniques of student
work. She gave positive feedback to students in class discussions.

Julia was not typical of a first semester placement. She was confident in her approach to teaching
and working with her was like working with a practising teacher. She was curious about many
aspects of teaching and willing to apply any suggestions made.

Julia mixed very well with fellow staff members and was interested in all aspects of teaching. She
was professional in her approach to colleagues. She was also professional in her approach to
parents at the Learning Progress interviews.

Mentor Teacher Comments
Julia can teach. She clearly enjoys being in the classroom and has an excellent rapport with the
students. She also interacts well with fellow staff. She has been a delight to work with and I am
confident that she will continue to make fine progress.
Teaching Fellow / Clinical Specialist Comments
Julia is to be congratulated on immersing herself into all aspects of school life. She is very motivated and
has been proactive in organising observations across many faculties. Julia has a positive professional
presence, and is always grateful for feedback and suggestions which she then immediately uses in her
subsequent planning. She has embraced the use of technology and has worked diligently to integrate it
into her lessons. It has been a pleasure to work with Julia and we wish her continued success in her
teaching career.
