7. Name one tool used to remove dust from a
computer
Blower
Wiper / Dry cloth
Sucker
8. Give reasons why one would require the
following in the computer laboratory
(i) - Uninterruptible Power Supply
- To give time to the user to save his work
by supplying power for a few minutes after
power has gone off / is insufficient /
unstable
- To safely turn off/shut down the
computer.
- To temporarily supply power to enable
the user complete work at hand.
9. Give reasons why one would require the
following in the computer laboratory
(ii) - LCD Projector
- To provide a display/show on wider view
to the learners.
- To eliminate the use of chalk which can
create dust in the laboratory
- To minimize the electro-magnetic
radiations.
10. Distinguish between Reading and
Writing in relation to storage medium
Reading is a process of transferring
data/instructions and information from
a storage medium into memory
While
Writing is a process of transferring
data/information from memory to a
storage medium.
11. Mention one example for each of the
types of storage devices given below
•Optical storage:
CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, Blue Ray
•Magnetic Storage:
Hard disk, Floppy disk, Magnetic tape, Zip disk, Jazz disk.
•Solid State:
Memory card, Flash disk
12. The table below shows a worksheet which
Nabirye was working on .Use it to answer the
questions that follow.
13. a) (i) Suggest a reason why the entry in cell A4 appeared as shown.
The column width is not wide enough
(ii) How do you rectify the error in cell A4?
• Widen or increase the column width
• Auto fit
• Reduce the font size
(iii) What does the error in cell E3 mean?
• Attempting to divide a number by zero (0) which is mathematically wrong
(iv) How do you correct the error in cell D5?
Typing the correct function name
14. Give two wireless transmission media
IRDA (infrared data Association)
Microwave
Broadcast Radio or radio waves
Bluetooth
15. IDENTIFY THREE LIMITATIONS OF
WIRELESS TRANSMISSION MEDIA
Some are not designed for high speed data transfer
They have a limited range of communication (distance)
Some devices do not have profiles compatible with
devices you want to connect with
Susceptible to interference and dilution
More prone to hackers
Initial costs of setting up and maintenance are high
Requires expertise or skilled personnel to
configure/administer
17. Name the elements of data communication labelled;
A. Sender/sending device
B. Communication channel/path or transmission medium
C. Receiver/receiving device
Suggest the devices used to connect A to B.
- NIC (Network Interface Card)
- USB card
State the protocol used to uniquely identify A and C.
-Internet protocol
19. Why do you think there are still few people using
computer in Uganda today
- Lack of electricity supply in some parts of the country.
- High levels of lack of computer skills
- There are expensive to buy.
- Maintenance costs are high

22. WAY FORWARD AND TIPS TO PASSING ICT
Lets understand the questions. Questions of Sub ICT/Computer
are direct. Every word in a question statement matters or
counts, Also understand the question and aim high too. Some
questions Call for logic, others need creativity & analytical skills,
while others need a lot prior reading.
Lets explain our points well where its required.
23. AVOID REPEATION
Qn. State four uses of
computers in a school like
ours.
Answers;
Used to print reports
Used to print exams
Used to print bank
slips
Used to print letters
Presentation:
When presenting in church
When presenting in class
When presenting in a
seminar
Presenting in worship
24. Get your facts right
Do softwares store data??
Does optical storage media store data in form of
light???
Is there a datatype called Date of Birth???
Are compilers and interpreters programming
languages??
Is there a difference between;
CPU and system Unit
System unit and system case
Holding of data, and data storage
25. Get your facts right
Can calculations be done with presentation software
Do output devices input data!!!!
Are secretaries and bursars ICT experts!!!
Is it true, or just trivial that we study computer to pass
exams!!!!!
What is/are;
System peripherals, utilities, soft booting, etc
Solid-state and optical storage media
Etc.
26. Avoid mixing issues
Usually mix;
Advantages, Uses and Functions
Servicing and repair
Internet, www, web page, website, and web server??
Colour highlight and font colour
Find and replace, with footnote
Qn. State four functions of electronic
spreadsheets.
27. PROCESS QUESTIONS
Should be presented showing the real
logical flow of steps: For instance
Some computer concepts
require an example to be
understood better
Give an example for clarity
where applicable. For
example, concepts like;
LAN, MAN, WAN, etc.
28. Try to be specific and avoid
generalization
Avoid generalization e.g.
A hard copy can NOT be edited X
A hard copy can NOT be easily
electronically edited
Computers make noise X
Some computers make noise…………
Have knowledge of all
topics
Questions come
from the entire
syllabus
29. PRACTICAL
PAPER S850/2&3
Every word in a question matters
• Drop cap on three lines
• A footer or watermark of your personal number
• Print your work
• Use asked file and object names.
• Use appropriate applications and charts.
• Put your work on the CD and avoid handing in file
shortcuts.
We look for specific practical
skills. Therefore;
Concentrate on what has been
asked first. (score sheet)
Decorations might be a waste of
time.
Understand the principles in every
software/program and function.
30. Spreadsheets
They work with Organized
data
understand and practice on
the principles;
Where and how does Excel add
a row or column??
Understand function parts &
conditions
When ranking the reference
remains constant!!! Why??
Start with equal sign. Why
Spreadsheets
Take note of values, labels,
functions, add rows and
columns, F2, old data gives
way, hiding & unhiding of
columns, freeze, rename,
headers and footers)
Do not confuse charts
Selecting non-adjacent
columns
Moving charts
Functions: CountIF, rank,
Vlookup, etc
31. Electronic databases
Critical skills:
The process is obvious.
Creation of database objects
Calculated queries and forms – keep
the field name unchanged in a
function
Query criteria.
Data types
Primary keys
Relationships
Field properties
Formats (dates, currency, etc.)
Validation rules
Word processing
Mail merge
Drop caps on five lines
Paragraph/text/page
boarder
Text highlight or font
colour.
Footer or watermark of a
specific text.
32. E-PRESENTATIONS & DESK
TOP PUBLISHING
• Aim at a professional
presentation/publication. Avoid
“noise”
• Poor and uncontrasting
background colours
• Select appropriate design
• Irrelevant clip art
• Over capitalization
• Select appropriate layouts (chart)
• Crowded content
• Poor spellings and grammar
• Font size contrast
• Choice of font face
• Inserting organizational charts, tables
and links
