1. Long term goal
In the future I plan to be a project manager for a wind energy company, with a primary
focus in project layouts. This has not always been my original plan; my original plan was to
become a civil engineer. A successful project manager is not only measured by their degrees or
by the amount certificates earned, but also measured by the years of experience that they have in
the field. Before having a Bachelor’s degree was a necessity a person was considered an engineer
or a professional by the amount of years and knowledge they had in their given field. At the
moment a person is required to have a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years under a
professional engineer before they are considered for the project manager position. Before I
decided to come back to school I was working for a renewable energy company in Odessa for
two years. This being the case I am giving myself a six years time limit to achieve my long term
goal. One year would be completely dedicated to finishing school, and the next five years would
be dedicating my time to working with my previous employer in my field of study. The current
salary for a project manager is a more than enough to raise a family, and live comfortably. This
is only a plus to why I would like to become a project manager. The main reason is the fact that I
have tried having a normal job in an office, but I just find that boring. I found myself being
happy in my previous line of work out in the field. At the end I am grateful for finding a
profession that makes me happy and one that I would enjoy doing day in and day out for the rest
of my life.
