4. HISTORY
The Bicol Region is located in the southernmost tip of Luzon
Island, the largest Island in the Philippine Archipelago.
*Bicol region was known as “ Ibalon” various interpreted to
derive from
“ ibalio” means “to bring to the other side” and
“ ibalon” means “people from the other side or people who
are hospitable and give visitors gift to bring home”
The people are called“ Bicolanos and their language is “
Bikolano”
1569 Gibal-ong a sitio of Maggallanes, Sorsogon where the
spaniards first landed.
The region was also called “Los Camarines” after the huts
found by the Spaniards

bahagi ng lalawigan ay nakasandig sa maalamat

province of Camarines Norte, holds the distinction
of being the town to erect the first monument of the
county’s national hero, Jose Rizal.
• Camarines Norte derives its name from the Spanish
word
“camarine” means “ rice granary or warehouse”
• Daet Camarines Norte is the Queen of Formosa.

• Camarines Sur is the largest province in area and
population occupying 5,481.6 km.
• The province derived from “camaronchones” or
“camarines” a Spanish word for “kamalig” mean small
nipa or bamboo made huts.
• Camarines Sur is the home of smallest fish in the world
the dwarf gobby (Pandaka pygmea) measures 1.2 cm
or less than half inch disvovered by American Itchyologist
Albert Herre.

• Catanduanes came from the word “tandu” a

• “Katanduan” then was the reference made

• When the Spaniards came , it was corrupted
from “katanduan to Catanduanes”

that once abounded in the Island
• People consiquently called “
Kasamdong” meaning a place
of many “samdong”

“katandungan” wich
gradually metamorphosed to
“ catanduanes”
