This drug deals with Parkinson disease.
Parkinson disease is a neurodegenerative
disease that severely affects the brain. The
disease results in the destruction of certain
nerve cells (Neurons) in the brain. These
certain cells supervise the smooth,
controlled, and coordinated body
movements.
Parkinson disease happens due to the
elimination of dopamine secreting neurons
in the brain.
This disease affects middle-aged and
elderly people.
3. MIRAPEX:
0.125MG
• Generic name: Pramipexole
• Brand name: Mirapex
• Drug class: Dopaminergic antiparkinsonism agents
• How it works: Has the same effects as dopamine, dopamine naturally in your body. This
drug works by boosting the action of your dopamine levels. Dopamine is extremely low in
patients with Parkinson disease.
• Common side effects: Muscle spasms, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, dry mouth, nausea,
constipation, sleep problems (insomnia).
• Sever side effects: light-headed, hallucinations, falling a sleep suddenly, tremors, vision
problems, posture changes.
• Initial dose: 0.125 mg orally three times a day. Doesn’t matter if you have food with it.
sometimes the dosage will be increased every 5-7 days based on efficacy and tolerability.
• Avoid drugs: cimetidine, metoclopramide, meds that treat mental illness.
• Prescription is required
• Pregnancy: consult with physician
• Alcohol: Limit intake
