• The main demographic of hip hop consists of mostly of working class males ranging
from the ages of 11-36. A lot of this being African Americans.
• However since Hip Hops success in the mainstream industry this has widened to
other ethnic groups like Caucasians, and even now young adults in education, age
ranging for 11-25. Almost two thirds of the hip hop audience is between the ages of
18-34.
• Hip Hop has the youngest audience demographic in the world today, this means
that people who listen to hip hop are the most likely to be living in poverty.
• 24 million confirmed people between the ages of 19-34, from a range of
nationalities, ethnic groups and religions, are estimated to make up the core hip
hop demographic.
3. HIP HOP AUDEICNE BUYING POWER!
• 19.4% of hip hops fans are going to be in the market for a new car in the next 6
months.
• 30% of this group of people will head for a specialty store to meet their sporting
goods needs and particular fashion.
• The hip hop group is more likely to patronize a shoe store than is the general public
by a factor of 10%.
• 45% of the hip hop audience will buy toys and gadgets pretty much anywhere.
• BMW is the hip hop audiences preferred brand choice.
• Hip hop consumers are far more likely to use a discount outlet than the general
population.
4. HOW TO APPEAL TO THE TARGET
AUDIENCE
• One of the main ways in witch hip hops audience is targeted is through the fashion,
this tends to be stereotypical but they tend to wear work boots, high top trainers,
skinny or baggy jeans, oversized t-shirts and excessive jewellery among an urban
setting.
• These locations tend to be in blocks of flats and graffiti ridden alleyways etc., hover
these are sure ways to appeal to the target audience. There is also usually emphasis
on low key lighting and concentration on wealth and success.
• They tend to use props like cars, weapons, money etc.
• Together these conventions combined help attract the target audience.
