2. COVER
The Mast Head in this cover is very big and bold. This is to make it stand out
from the crowd amongst the other text on the cover.
The mast head is parallel in characteristics with the main image as both are
quite big and bold. The character in the picture is striking a rock pose which
expresses his love for his genre of music. His dress ware is quite abstract and
different and this is common in some aspects of rock and folk music. The
character is however wearing black and this is discordant to his pose as the
black is used to suggest the formality and seriousness of the music he is in.
The barcode is on the cover to let the reader know that the magazine is for
purchase. It also adds professionalism to the magazine as it is seen as a more
prestigious product now it costs.
3. COVER
The sell lines are layed out a lot differently to the standard folk magazine. But
because this is folk/rock the rock element is quite sporadic and unique. So the
producer has made the sell lines differently to replicate the rocky nature of the
genre.
The producer has created a magazine that has a specific focus on one person
and the fact that ’Keith Richards’ name is bigger and in different font to the
other sell lines tells us this focus on the character. The font is also quite abstract
and unusual matching with the characters body language, pose and costume.
The colour scheme is very basic and only consists of two colours black and white.
This makes the magazine seem very formal and serious. The colours are quite
constrasting with white representing purity and innocence and black
representing the more hardcore dark qualities. It could be said that white
represnts the folk side and black the rock side.
4. CONTENTS
The typology in this contents page is very fancy with flicks off the letters, this
conveys to the reader that the magazine is formal and high profile.
This matches with the high profile band in the magazine ‘The Rolling Stones’ as
they are one of the most high profile rock bands in history. The main image of
’The Rolling Stones’ is a long shot, which shows the equality of all 4 band
members because all 4 have a focus. The relaxed body language of the band
members also suggest that the band have been together for a while and are
comfortable in each others company. This matches up with the chilled vibe
associated with folk/rock music.
The main sell lines are bolder than the small print typology this is to stress the
importance of each story. Also it lets the reader know what each story is easily
so they only have to read on, with the stories the have interest in.
5. CONTENTS
The page numbers are also highlighted in their own colour, red. The colour red
is associated with danger and anger. So with the page numbers being read the
reader might jump to see them, therefore attracting the reader to the article on
that page number.
The two banners at the bottom are in a circular shape, this is to make the
magazine contents more entertaining because apart from them, the contents is
quite baige and is heavily focused on the seriousness of rock/folk music. They
also provide snippets of information that might be of interest to the reader.
6. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The producer uses repetition in his language for the mast head of the
double page spread to provide entertainment for the reader. The
middle part of the mast head is also highlighted in gold as it is the
most prestigious part of the title. Also the colour gold represents a
sense of victory and acheivment, so this makes the reader take in the
title as a piece of advice of someone who has achieved.
The main image is a medium close up and we focus in on the
aggressive nature of the character. This represents more the rock side
of the genre. But we can also interpret this as his passion for the genre
of music he performs in.
The article also uses a signal. With the start of the text being signals
with a bigger bolder letter. This is to let the redaer know where the
start of the text is and it attracts attention to the story.
7. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The producer uses a skyline for important information to go there.
This is because the readers attention is drawn to the top of the
magazine naturally. So the skyline ‘The 50 greatest Neil Young
songs’ provide us with really important information we need for the
article we are about to read.
The produce ruse the tri-colour system, the most common system in
media for colour. This is because it gives it a clean professional look
for the brand. These colours specifically give a sense of royalty as
gold, black and white are probably the most luxurious colours in the
spectrum. It makes the magazine seem upper class and this appeals
top this target audience.
