47. Air resistance
• Air resistance is a force that slows things down that are already moving.
It can also be called drag.
• When objects move they have to push through the air, its like when you
swim you push yourself forwards through the water but air resistance is
much easier to push through.
• When you did your paper aeroplane
experiment last week, air resistance
slowed your planes down. Without air resistance
your planes could have travelled even faster!!

48. Air resistance task
• Your taskis to make a parachute for astronauts to use when they land back on earth to stop them from
crashing to Earth.
• You are going to do this by designing and makinga parachute and space capsule that is highly air resistant so
it can slowly and safely land on Earth.
• First, draw a detailed picture of the parachute labelling each part using materials you have at home
• Then, try dropping it somewhere safely that ishigh up. Time how long it takes to fall tothe floor the slower
and longer your space capsule takes to land the better
