1. MUSIC 181 PITCH LETTER

JOSEPH BOLDISCHAR #1252681
Dear Mr. Newell, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance. We very briefly spoke after your
panel at E3 two days ago about the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headsets. Unfortunately due to
the limited time frame we were given, we didn't really have time for formalities, and I was
rushed along. Thankfully you were kind enough to pass along your personal E-Mail to further our
discussions.
Being as modest as possible, it was a real honor to be able to speak with you. Valve, your
company has broken so many molds within the Gaming Industry, and truly hold a standard that
has been the root of innovation everywhere among other companies. Your stringent standards
and dedication to quality over quantity has caused me to strive for the same quality in my Game
Audio Designing. Ever since experiencing the immersive atmospheres of the "Half-Life" universe,
I came to the conclusion that your opinion, and the opinion of Valve's expert engineers will
significantly help me grow into a better Audio Engineer/Designer.
My personal experiences for the past four years mainly lie within field recording within many
different types of environments, and trying to capture unique audio. However, I have been
participating in many courses at DVC to help grow my knowledge in creating my own sounds.
Along with arranging them in such a way to create an immersive environment that is also
capable of telling a compelling story through subtleties.
I would heavily appreciate your permission to send you a small five-track compilation of my
own Voice Acting, and Custom Sound Effects. In hopes that you will review my work honestly at
your own convenience. Please contact me VIA. E-Mail (dimitriknows@gmail.com) or, the
alternative at (925) 798-1043 to let me know if you're willing in doing so, and to touch bases on
our previous discussions.
Understandably, I realize with Valve's constant stride to break more ground, this can be rather
time consuming, and time is a very valuable commodity, especially within the gaming industry. -
As I stay frequently active on Steam, and diligently pay attention to Valve's love for smaller indie
developers, it's easily discernible that you truly wish to help the little people and create a
2. wonderful gaming community. With this in mind, I shall continue to develop myself as an Audio
Engineer/Designer, but also as a person to follow your example. Nonetheless, if I don't hear
back from you, I shall keep in high spirit that someday within our distant futures, our paths will
cross once again.
Thank you very much for you consideration, Mr. Newell. I sincerely hope you're willing to allow
me to demonstrate my unique perspective and work to you, and Valve.
Sincerely,
Joseph Boldischar
