2. What does it mean to
think globally?
• Thinking globally is about knowing there
is more out there then you will ever see,
more than any one person could ever know
and understanding that your every action
has consequences seen and unseen, near
and far. It’s about making choices that are
good for all of us; known and unknown. No
matter how different or far away we may be
from each other, we share the same planet,
the same air, the same oceans. We have a
duty, a moral obligation, to ensure that this
planet we all call home is kept as clean and
safe as possible, for all of us.

4. Analysis of the lyrics; consequences of actions
near.
The lyrics:
“Overseas, yeah, we tryna stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate, then you're bound to get
irate, yeah”
The analysis:
• This section of the lyrics briefly touches on actions far,
(war on terror in response to 9/11) but primarily
focuses on examples of violence and racial
discrimination that cause harm to people.
• The examples used in the song are gang violence and a
white supremacist domestic terrorism organization.
• This type of infighting and hatred occurs not just here,
but everywhere.
• These problems are caused by who we all choose to be
– a triggerman for a criminal organization or a violent
sheet wearing bigot.
• If all of us around the world made a commitment to be
good to each other, we would all be better off for it.

5. Analysis of the lyrics; consequences of
actions far.
The lyrics:
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong?
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
With ongoing sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself, is the lovin' really gone?
So I can ask myself, really, what is going wrong
With this world that we livin' in? People keep on givin' in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on, but the reason's undercover
The analysis:
• The actions here are actions of politicians – people who give the
orders to fight the faraway wars.
• Warfare that is destroying people is the topic here, and we’re
left with a question: Why?
• The answer is greed – “Makin’ wrong decisions, only visions of
them dividends.”
• The truth of the matter is war is profitable. The military-
industrial complex in America is massive.
• But it’s not just America – it’s all of the world superpowers.
• Wealth and power corrupt. They give people a reason to act
horribly and without regard for human life.
• If all of us, around the world, could forget about enriching
ourselves and instead help each other, we would be a lot better
off everywhere.

The analysis:
• At the end of the song the outro stresses we
all have “one world” – we all live on the
same planet.
• We don’t have another Earth (at least for
now) so all of us, around the world, have to
live on this one.
• We all have to share it, and we all have a
duty to keep it livable not just for all of us
now, but for all of us to come.

13. Extreme drought in Spain
threatens food production:
• A record-setting drought in Spain
is threatening crops across the
nation, with extreme water
shortages potentially making
irrigation impossible. It is likely that
if heavy rains do not arrive within a
month, crops that depend on
rainwater for sustenance may lose
the vast majority of their
production. Experts believe that
climate change is to blame.

14. Nicaraguan
government
imprisons
opposition
leaders.
Seven more opposition leaders have been sent to prison
for the crime of, “conspiracy to undermine national
integrity.” These sentences come amongst members of
the dozens arrested in the time following last year’s
election, which had President Daniel Ortega secure a
second term in office. Outside observers have dismissed
the polls as illegitimate.

15. Troops marching
in Kinshasa after
failed coup.
Troops of the elite local militia were marching down city
streets to prove their existence and presence, with the
goal of deterring further attempts at seizing power.
The alleged perpetrators have been arrested.

16. Abduction of 5
UN staff in
southern Yemen
Armed men kidnapped the UN employees and are likely
holding them for ransom. Yemen’s government is
claiming to be working to safely free the workers in
conjunction with assistance from the UN Department of
Security.

17. US President
pushes back
against Russian
threat of
invading Ukraine
Though president Biden and Ukraine’s President
Zelenskyy have vocalized their desire to pursue
diplomatic means to ease tensions, the US national
security adviser has expressed concern that Moscow is
actively looking for a “pretext” for an attack.

Kishida ponders
easing COVID
restrictions.
The prime minister said Saturday that he considering “a
policy direction for relaxing border controls” which were
implemented out of concern for the spread of the
omicron variant.

19. Scientists in
England warn
that next COVID
strain could be
much deadlier.
• Speculation about potential mutations producing a
much deadlier version of the virus has prompted
these scientists to advise against an easing of
restrictions and a return to “normal life.” They
advised caution to be taking in the easing of
restrictions, which Boris Johnson plans to do in the
coming week.
