1. POSITIVE ATTRIBUTES as a RUNNING BACK:
1. Best alignment is as an I Formation Tailback because it takes
advantage of his outstanding vision. He has great ability to see
a hole open up and then accelerate to it.
2. Great quickness after he makes a decision on what to do and
where to go.
3. Outstanding balance after a defender makes initial contact or
he changes direction. Very seldom does he allow himself to be
tackled by one defender.
4. For an ‘UNDERSIZED’ back, he has a violent running manner.
His leg strength and north –south style assists him is always
gaining YAC yards. YAC means ‘Yards After Contact’. This a
great measuring stick for the toughness and determination of a
ball carrier.
5. His durability and fitness level are very high. He has the
ability to carry the ball a minimum of 25-30 times a game. He
plays at the same level in the 4th Q as he does in the 1st Q.
6. He is an Offensive Lineman’s dream. Because he is so quick
on his feet and with his decision making, Linemen do NOT have
to sustain their blocks nearly as long as they normally would.
They need to create a seam and Jonathan will see it.
7. Has the unique ability to cut on a ‘dime’ at the LOS or as he is
approached by a tackler. He performs this cut (or C.O.D.) with
great ease and does not break stride.
8. He hides very well behind his blockers. As he approaches the
LOS he will adjust his speed to make a decision and then
accelerate forward. This is the sole reason he does such a great
job of executing the sweep/pitch play.
9. Has superior natural instincts. This is evidenced by his
ability to cut back in the open field as well as immediately after
breaking the LOS. When in the open field he is very elusive.
2. 10. Great job of switching the ball from right to left hands in
the open field.
11. Jonathan is overall a very productive football player with
great speed, quickness and a natural feel for the game while
carrying the football.
12. Great punt returner. If given a chance to get started up
field, after fielding the punt, he is a real threat to go the
distance to the end zone.
13. As a Punt Returner, Jonathan is magnificent in getting to
the wall set up and avoiding tacklers in the open field on
Returns.
SUMMARY:
Size is the biggest obstacle that Jonathan will face. He is a
talented young man with a very special skill---SPEED. Speed
wins in today’s football. Be aware that the recruiting process
with him will be UNEVEN. This means that schools from all
levels will recruit him. As an example: Baylor might love his
speed and quickness, regardless of his height and weight.
Oklahoma State might reject him because of size. There will be
no consistency.
Jonathan is a treat to watch as a football player, he plays hard
and with reckless abandon and passion. He has great character
and is a well-rounded young man.
