Farmers are the backbone of society but are not celebrated as heroes. China faces threats to its social and economic well-being from issues of food and water security due to pollution and depleting natural resources. What’s The Problem?
There is a great disproportion between China’s population growth and demand and its depleting natural resources. Food
and water security and safety has become the most pressing national threat to China’s social-economic well-being. We
have made a mess of this world and have lost our identity. Our values are defined by popular media. And we have lost
site of what really matters. The shift that propelled human/societal progress began with the discovery of agriculture. To
this day, farmers are the backbone to any functioning society. But we do not celebrate farmers as heroes; instead our
heroes are the wall-street gurus and T.V. celebrities. Farmers provide us life while we destroy theirs.

8. The Drivers of Pollution
Contributors to china's serious toxicity problem. Our journey thus far has taught us that
the leaders of china are doing their best. The reality is that there's no simple fix. We
have seen great improvements in policy and legislative reform, enforcement of targets,
civic participation, grass-root and national initiatives, and large investments in
alternative energy. However, until such solution are discovered, millions of people
continue to suffer.
