Goal
Through this learning resource we want to have students actively engage with the issue of
cyberbullying, sharing their viewsand learning about these issues.Ultimately becoming
stakeholders in the overall school approach to the issue alongside teachers and parents.

Bullying is defined as unwanted negative behaviour, verbal, psychological or physical, conducted
by an individual or group against another person (or persons) and which is repeated over time.
These
procedures make clear that this definition includes cyber-bullying and identity-based bullying
(such as homophobic bullying and racist bullying).

The aim of the belowscenariosistoallow the studentsdiscussingroupsinitiallyandthendiscuss
amongstthe class if there shouldbe anypenaltiesandif solevelsof severity(e.g.Civil,criminal,

Tom commentsona photo of a girl in hisclassthat she is "a slutand nobodylikesher".After
the comment gets 7 likes, the photo is removed and Tom does not comment again.
Samantha is at a party and gets drunk. In an argument with another girl she says "Do you
knowwhomy dad is?He worksinthe biggest company in town and makes over €1m euro a
year." Unbeknownst to Samantha, Mary films the episode and posts it on YouTube. The
video gets over 1000 views and as a result Samantha changes schools.
BensgirlfriendLizzyconvinces him to send her nude photos of himself. After they have an
argument,Lizzy sends the photos to all her watsapp friends who share it as far as 8 schools
inthe surroundingarea.Benisso embarrassedthathe now suffers serious anxiety, doesn't
want to go out anymore and loses contact with almost all of her friends.
Evelyn tells her friend Joan in confidence that she's gay. After this Joan stops hanging
aroundwithEvelyn,tellsthe otherkidsinschool whatEvelyntold her and starts a Facebook
page where all the other kids leave mean and nasty comments about Evelyn. Evelyn
becomesmore reclusive and starts self harming. After 3 months Joan starts to feel bad and
takes the site down voluntarily.
Audrey shares a room in college with Sarah. Audrey starts going out with Philip who she
think is single. Philip is not single and when Sarah finds out she sets up a webcam in her
room to catch Audrey kissing Philip and broadcasts it across the whole college campus.
Philipsgirlfriend sees this video and her and her friends send abusive messages to Audrey
and threatentobeather up andget herkickedoutof college lying about her cheating on an
exam.Audreybecomesso worried that she suffers from anxiety and eventually overdoses
on paracetamol and ends up in a coma in hospital.
