Narrative structures in trailers
Close endings
Closed ending aren’t usually not seen in trailers, because this would show the ending
of the film and give away the storyline then there would be no reason for the audience
to see the movie because they know exactly what happens at the end. This could show
that Toderovs theory of eliquilbrim, disiliquibrim then eliquilbrim isn’t always right
because there is not ending of a normal state.
Linear
Most trailers use a structure called linear of an everyday setting then it goes on to
show the disruption of the main part of the story, showing a normal setting at the start
would have the audience convinced that they know what to expect and then showing
the disruption would excite them because they don’t expect it to come.
Open endings
Nearly all trailers leave an open ending to the audience, an open ending is leaving the
story unanswered not giving to much away, so that the audience can interpret in a way
they want then it gives them an excitement of mystery of what could possibly happen
at the end, making them more inclined to see the film.
Realist
Most teaser trailers will have an common features of real life situations that the
audience will b be able to relate to. This would make a teaser trailer stand out and
make the audience want to watch it because they feel that what they go through is
common in the day and age they are in.
Anti-realist
Some teaser trailers will use elements of genres that aren’t necessarily seen in
everyday life for example sci fi or fantasy, this may lead the audience to want to see
the trailer because they like the idea of something that isn’t in their everyday life
something interesting that they haven’t seen before.
Multi strand Narrative
The idea of multi strand narrative is different storylines put into one film. This is done
so that if the audience aren’t really interested in one storyline they would be more
2. inclined to want to see the film still because they know that the other storylines will
still be of interest to them.
Single strand narrative
A single strand narrative is a storyline that doesn’t consist of any over stories just
sticking to one. This would be beneficial to some audiences because they may only
want to see the main one that’s been advertised to them.
