3. Pier 54 memorial plaza
Programs Used Representing the RMS Lusitania through abstraction, this design features illuminated
racked stacks to represent the smoke stacks of the Lusitania, a reconstructed arch that
creates a blast to the past using historic stone and iron work, as well as an outer shell that
is an abstract wave that interacts with the tide to create the illusion of a wave crashing into
the ship. The captain’s house abstraction was inspired by OMA and will be used as an event
space to host a multitude of events.

The Hudson River Park Esplanade is a 4-mile
greenway, which is 70% complete. Since 1999, it
has begun to transform old piers and parking lots
along the west side into urban parks in sections.
Each pier is designed by a different architecture
firm to have its own unique appeal. The newly
created parks attract over 17 million guests per
year and serve a key role in preserving and
educating on ecological and cultural history of
the Hudson River. The parks offer a variety of
activities including: athletic events, concerts,
dances, educational programming, and movies.
The Hudson River Park Trust has recently had to
stop hosting events at Pier 54 due to its structural
integrity, but in the past it has been home to
many events and has produced re venue to keep
the trust going. The trust wishes to have a place
that brings in revenue and attracts guests, while
celebrating the pier’s rich history.
The Meatpacking District is 20 square blocks
located on the West Side of Manhattan. It is
home to many architects, artists, creative
industry corporate headquarters, and fashion
and graphic designers. The Meatpacking District
is also home to the High Line. The High Line is a
park built in the sky and offers green space to city
residents. After the Civil War the district went into
a decline and was considered to be no longer
desirable. Beginning in the 1990’s however, the
district began a resurgence with fashion
companies and young hipsters moving in. Today
it is a thriving neighborhood home to quality
dinning, recreation, and shopping. Through its
recent development it has worked to keep in
touch with it’s rich history.
With 6 lanes of highway traffic, 1 lane of street
traffic, 2 lanes of on street parking, and a
bikeway, getting to Pier 54 from the pedestrian
ways located on the opposite side is currently not
possible. The use of a pedestrian bridge is not
only recommended, but needed in this location
to enhance the use of the Pier 54 design.
TIDAL VARIANCE OF THE HUDSON RIVER
+3
0
-1
The total tidal variance of the Hudson River is 4
feet. The tide rises 3 feet and drops 1 foot from
sea level. The water itself is not very sanitary so
finding a way for the tide to be incorporated into
design presents a challenge. The water itself is
rather calm and no big waves impact the river.

4. NASHVILLE INDIANA NATURE CONSERVANCY
Programs Used Nashville Indiana Educational Nature Conservancy focused on the placement of a new
facility into an existing environment located in Nashville, Indiana. Specifically this project
focused on a sustainable placement of a new facility into an existing prairie. From there
construction documents were prepared to help illustrate the design and it’s intent.

5. Peter pan's neverland garden
Programs Used Inspired by the classic Peter Pan, this sensory garden is home to native Florida plants that
boast vibrant colors and visual textures, as well as fragrant odors. A Skull Rock inspired
water feature will provide background noise to provide a positive distraction that removes
guests from the surrounding park. Honoring the theme of the United Kingdom, Peter Pan’s
Neverland will incorporate classical United Kingdom elements as it depicts Peter Pan and
Friends’ journey.

6. Residential design
Programs Used The residential proposed design features a swimming pool, shaded seating area, fire pit
area, and outdoor bar/ kitchen space. The design progressed through multiple concepts
exploring with different elements and shapes. The client settled on a rounded fire pit area
with an L shaped bar and kitchen space. Strategically placed vegetation burms provided a
privacy screen from neighbors and created multiple views out into the landscape.
