2. What comes in your mind
when you hear the word
“LIFE”?
3. Paleontologists tell us that life originated during the first billion
years of the history of our planet. Different possibilities on the
beginning of life were identified.
1. Special Creation- supernatural or divine forces called, God.
2. Extraterrestrial origin – theory of panspermia proposes that
meteors or cosmic dust may have carried significant amount of
complex organic molecules to earth.
3. Spontaneous origin – life evolved from inanimate matter
associated among molecules which became more complex.
4. 1. Special Creation or Divine Creation
• Life was put on Earth by divine forces
• does not always reject science
• Question: Scientific or not?
• Struggle: Teaching in the academe
5. 2. Extraterrestrial Origin - theory of panspermia proposes that
meteors or cosmic dust may have carried significant amount of
complex organic molecules to earth.
PANSPERMIA means seeds everywhere
This theory given by RICHER in the year 1865.
6. 3. Spontaneous origin – life evolved from inanimate matter
associated among molecules which became more complex.
• Living organisms arose from nonliving substances, such as
maggots from meat.
7. HYPOTHESES
the original molecules of life
formed within clay
the origin of life could have
been in deep-sea
hydrothermal vents
CHILLY START
that life began from a series
of chemical reactions in a
warm pond on Earth’s
surface, triggered by an
external energy source such
as lightning strike or
ultraviolet (UV) light
COMMUNITY CLAY DEEP SEA VENTS
microscopic pockets of water
within ancient ice may have
gathered simple molecules,
which assemble into longer
and longer chains, forming
the foundation for life
PRIMORDIAL SOUP
one point in the past, during
the formation of the solar
system, an electrical spark,
created in some type of
primordial matter, brought
about the first life forms.
