The document summarizes a medical camp held in the villages of Kg Inakaak, Kg Balaron, and Pekan Persiangan in Sabah, Malaysia. It describes the team taking a boat upriver to Salong, then traveling overland to Kg Balaron where they set up their camp in a community hall. Despite heavy rain and hot weather under the thin zinc roof, the team saw 262 patients. The document concludes with statistics on the total number of patients seen and types of medical services provided over the 3 day camp across the three villages.
Medical Camp Provides Healthcare to Rural Malaysian Villages
1.
2. From Kg Inakaak, we took the perahu up river to Salong.
Which was actually the initial site for our 3rd Camp. But they
just had a medical Camp last week, so Impian suggested that
the need was more in Kg Balaron. So we disembarked at
Salong and proceeded using 4x4 through logging roads
again, to Kg Balaron which was actually nearer Keningau.
3. Transfering our cargoes and bags from the perahus for the
journey inkand to Kg Balaron. To make things more
interesting, the weather was threatening to rain, and some of
our bags / cargoes had no rain protection. Lets chance it.
4. Thank God. We arrived just as the heavy rain started. This is a
large community hall on stilts. This will serve as our living
quarters, sleeping quarters, as well as medical Camp site.
5. Arriving in the rain, we first parked our 4x4 in the ground
floor beneath this hall, then slowly transferred our barang
barang upstairs. Boy we were tired. The locals were a great
help. They did most of the heavy lifting.
6. 8am. The Camp started. The diagnostic counter open for
work. They were busy.
Conditions were mild and fairly pleasant.
I will regret 12 noon.
7. Registration were lucky. They were sited outside the main
hall, and there was a constant breeze. That was where I slept
last night.
8. We worked hard. Patient came in droves. As the morning
went on, we began to sweat.
9. The hot thin roof above us, of zinc, under the 12 noon sun,
make working condition like an oven. It was a torture. It was
so bad, that I decided to stop work, to give our teams some
respite. Plenty of fans, plenty of water. The heat was
unbearable. I did not anticipate this.
11. The dentist felt the heat wave the worse. They had their
gown on, and I had curtains up to protect patient privacy,
that really make conditions very tough for them. Thanks
Ashwin and Shan, you tried your best and endued. My
apologies, and thank you for your great works.
12. We did finish finally. We saw 262 patients, despite the
40oC conditions under the hot thin zinc roof.
13. Packing, stock checks, and everyone looking forward to
Keningau Sento Hotel, for clean baths and usual toilets, a
nice dinner and some “Ngau Chap” for breakfast
15. The Nabawan – Keningau road, back to Sento Hotel,
It was rain, a large part of the way.
16. KKIA at about 10 am on 13th November. The JB group, left
at 10 am already. The Kedah group is on the way to airport
from KK town. This is the Klang Valley group.
