Counting What Counts Ltd (Culture Counts) – The Opportunity
This Project Manager role is an exciting opportunity to work on an innovative and high-profile
project in the cultural sector. Following a comprehensive tender process Arts Council England has
selected Counting What Counts Ltd (which holds the license to operate the Culture Counts
software platform in Europe) as the preferred service provider for their new Impact and Insight Tool
to be used by their funded portfolio (some 900 organisations) in the 2018-2022 investment period.

Culture Counts (https://culturecounts.cc/uk/) is a software platform that is transforming the way in
which arts and cultural organisations work with their audiences, and each other, to capture the
value of their work.
Culture Counts provides a cloud-based software system, and sets of standardized metrics, for
evaluating a cultural performance, event or programme using feedback from three different
respondent groups:
- The artists, curators and / or cultural organisation that created the work or produced the
event (self-assessment).
- Expert peers such as other artists and people working in cultural organisations in the same
field (peer assessment).
- Audience members and visitors (public assessment).
Counting What Counts Ltd will be working with ACE funded National Portfolio Organisations
(NPOs) and Sector Support Organisations (SSOs) to support them with their evaluation activities

(using Culture Counts) and to develop shared metrics and data that will help the cultural sector to
better understand the impact of its work.
The introduction of the Impact and Insight Toolkit is an exciting opportunity to develop large-scale
datasets audience experience for the Arts Council and the sector to explore. The data will be
shared, discussed and interpreted by the creative professionals that make the work, allowing a
richer dialogue between artists, peers and the public to emerge around the value of cultural
experiences. The adoption of the Impact and Insight Tool will also help encourage a stronger focus
on data and the value it can bring to the sector.
Key objectives of this post are as follows:
• To be the project manager responsible for the oversight and coordination of all work relating
to the Impact and Insight Toolkit, and related Culture Counts projects
• To be a member of the Culture Counts leadership team, advising on resourcing, planning
and process improvements.
Key roles and responsibilities will include:
• Develop and maintain an overall implementation plan for the project, including project
scope, work-streams, goals and deliverables
• Activity planning and sequencing: create work schedules and project timelines
• Manage project resources: define tasks and allocate resources to make sure schedule is on
track
• Manage and monitor the project budget, including cost and time estimation for key tasks
• Develop a risk register for the project, and manage any resulting issues and risks;; escalate
critical issues as necessary and to resolution
• Coordinate and manage planning and progress review meetings with the project team
• Develop clear communications and reporting processes with the Arts Council and other
stakeholders as required
• Monitor and report on project progress: agree monitoring metrics, collect project data and
produce regular status reports using agreed software tools
• Lead responsibility for client facing reporting and documentation
• Contribute to quality assurance processes
The role currently will have no direct reports (in terms of full time FTEs), but the post holder will be
expected to coordinate other freelance staff as required.
The post holder will report directly to the Director and Research Director
Other Responsibilities
• To contribute to Culture Count’s communication channels and touch points, including
website, social media, e-newsletters, social media and streaming channels.
• To actively contribute to how Culture Counts makes use of data to drive a better
understanding of audience experience across the cultural sector

Skills, Knowledge and Qualities
• Degree or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent professional experience
• An experienced project manager, able to deliver complex projects on time and on budget
• Ideally accredited project management training (PRINCE2, Project Management
Professional (PMP))
• Proficiency with software tools (Excel, CRM, and project management software tools)
• Analytical and strong organisational skills, with excellent verbal and written ability
• Experience in strategic planning and risk management
• Experience of working with external partners and managing agencies, able to establish
shared objectives, milestones and delivery plans with third parties
• Experience of quality assurance, particularly in relation to the collection and management
of large-scale data
• The ability to prioritise and work under pressure and to be a flexible and credible team
player
• Ideally knowledge of software development processes
• Ideally enthusiasm for the arts, and knowledge of relevant developments and trends within
the national and international cultural sector
