I am writing to recommend my colleague, John Courville for a position within your organization.
As Managing Director of Support Services, Harvard University Information Technology, I worked
with John for four years. During that time, John ably supported the operational needs of a
large, complex, and evolving technology organization within a large and complex University.
Perhaps the most significant of John’s many strengths is his sense of commitment and
responsibility. John is a real team player, but the way he takes ownership for projects and
operational activities really creates value for colleagues, managers, and other entities involved.
As his manager, I could be confident that he had a good handle on his work and the work of his
team. I knew that he would respond promptly as situations arose, maintain momentum on
projects, and keep me informed of progress and issues as needed.
John has extensive operational experience and can bring his expertise and ideas to bear on a
variety of problems, and he impressed me with his creativity ‐‐ he regularly came up with ideas
that were “out of the box”, without losing sight of schedules, budgets and other constraints.
He also was open to the suggestions, ideas and opinions of other players, and embraced the
need for collaboration and consensus building.
