The “Weald Stone” is a “sarsen” stone which were used in pre Roman times to delineate a trade route or thoroughfare or to mark the intersection of two communities. Sarsen
stones were also used in the construction of Stonehenge. In modern times Wealdstone is a community of North West London and was the birth place of the band “The Who”.

An organization considering relocation or expansion faces several challenges which can usually be traced back to one or more of
the following drivers. Identifying and prioritizing these drivers to match the specific needs and situation of your company helps
to pinpoint broad geographic areas which could potentially meet those needs.
Business growth – is causing demand to outstrip capacity of an existing facility. Expanding your current facility
may or may not be an option but in any event it is an opportunity to evaluate possible alternatives. This is
especially true if you believe there may be a potential to improve the bottom line by reducing costs, growing
sales or both.
Proximity to Market – A well-positioned new facility may be better placed to service your existing customer
base as well as providing the opportunity for developing new markets. In some cases, a major customer may
require you locate near their facility to minimize potential supply chain issues related to costs or timing.
Proximity to raw materials – You may consider locations closer to a source of raw materials, either the source
itself or a relevant transportation point such as a port or multi-modal facility. The significance of this
consideration would depend on the nature of your raw materials and the cost of transportation.
Other key factors then come into play to help define and refine search criteria for a potential location. These drivers measure
the potential ability of each community to support your business and include:
Work Force – skill levels, availability, wage levels, training & education etc.
Business Climate – state & local tax levels, labor & employment laws, regulatory & permitting, incentives etc.
Infrastructure – location, utilities, transportation, suitable land/building etc.
Capital Investment – Cost of land/building, required equipment etc.
Each project has its own unique combination of needs or drivers and pertinent data has to be found, collated and presented in a
useable form to allow sound decision making.
Effort spent on these and many other related issues will quickly consume management resources in a company that maybe already
close to capacity and running to keep up with current demand. Constant priority interruptions divert management’s attention
from focusing on the detail of a well-informed site selection exercise impacting both quality and timing.
The Wealdstone Group offers clients a modular methodology for site selection providing the flexibility to structure a customized
scope of work to meet each individual client’s needs, priorities and timeline. On the completion of each step clients are presented
with clear and concise information on which to base decisions needed before proceeding with the next step.
We are able to help find and evaluate viable location options whether your company is definitely moving forward with
establishing a new facility or you simply want to know what options may be out there.
