2. In 2008 and 2009, Josef Rebbe and Joeri Bonsel made recordings of
numerous improvisation sessions which became the base material
for the compositions on this CD. The recordings were made in the
Barth Kapel in The Hague, The Netherlands. The chapel in the
heart of the city was chosen because of its unique acoustics, and
the environmental sounds around the chapel that interact with the
improvisations.
Slowly developing crossing tones characterize the soundscapes on the
CD. Singing bowls provide contrast with the sounds of a grand piano.
The pianist plays conventionally, and also plucks the strings in the
body of the piano to produce spheric and intriguing sounds.
A synthesizer, a flute and the human voice are used as well to give an
authentic and vital combination creating an intimate space.

3. Josef Rebbe
composer, musician and teacher was born in 1975 in Germany
He started his musical education by following lessons in Music Theory,
Piano, Cello, Trombone, Guitar, Singing and Church Organ at the
Meschede School of Music. During his Secondary Scientific Education
at the Mariengymnasium in Ansberg he studied Church Music at the
Archbishopric, Paderborn and graduated with the C-examination in
1994. After a short study of Music Science at the Cologne University,
he studied Composition with Prof. Johannes Fritsch at the Cologne
University of Music which he graduated with the Bachelor degree
in 2002. Also, at the Cologne University of Music he studied Piano,
New Aleatoric Chamber Music and Improvisation with Paulo Alvares,
Computer Composition with Prof. Klarenz Barlow, and Electronic
Composition with Prof. Hans-Ulrich Humpert. In 2002, he received a
scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service to study
Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he graduated
in 2005 with a Masters degree.
Since that time, Josef Rebbe has been researching on different tuning
systems and their effect on the human body. His main interest is to
provide music as a tool to support spiritual awareness.
Joeri Bonsel
soundartist and photographer was born in 1969 in the
Netherlands
His professional background is rooted in photography
which he graduated cum laude in 1996 with the
Bachelor Degree of Design in the Royal Academy of
Arts, The Hague.
His musical interest started at a young age playing
the alto saxophone. He participated in the early
nineties in a saxophone quartet, french style,
under the guidance of Ko de Kloet. In 1998, a
renewed interest for sound started after hearing
the use of the voice with Nepalese singing bowls.
From then on, Joeri Bonsel became focused on
subtle sounds which can be generated by the
voice. The collection of singing bowls became an
instrument to tune into a different vocabulary of
frequencies. As a sound artist, he is interested in
creating bridges between these subtleties and the
common western music idiom.
4. Jessica Muller
a Dutch visual artist, was born in 1963 in Bergen in Germany
In 1988 she graduated as a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Royal
Academy of Arts, The Hague, as a painter and monumental designer.
Her travelling through Asia inspired her to start filming in 1997.
Since then she works with the classical medium paint and the new
medium video.
She stayed a while at the ‘Vrije Academy’ in The Hague in Frans
Zwartjes’ class and followed a course in ‘documentary making’ at
the Video and Film School in Rotterdam. Working as a video editor for
television since 2000, she built up her experience, later also teaching
the subject in video courses. In the mean time she created her way
into associative video. In movement and sound she creates new
unexpected worlds which lie under the surface of the direct sensory
experience. ‘Crown (Up and Down)’ is an profound example of this
approach. Insert the CD into your computer to enjoy this video-art.
