PROFILE
I am a very enthusiastic, highly motivated student wanting to seek out a PhD opportunity to
continue my studies and to be able to contribute to the field of Physics/Astrophysics. I am
reliable and I am able to take initiative to work on my own even while under high pressure. I
do believe I have got the necessary skills needed to thrive in a PhD position.
EDUCATION
2014 – 2015 BSc (Hons) Applied Physics, University of Portsmouth
Currently studying in my final year, I expect to receive an average score of 2:1. I have
undertaken quite a selection on units during these years, such as Modern Astrophysics,
Mathematical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, General relativity, Thermodynamics and
statistical physics and laboratory physics.
I have, during my studies, gained extensive skills in Problem solving, experimental efficiency,
being able to complete experiments/tasks as part of a team as well as individually. Extensive
knowledge has been gained in computing (IDL, Mat Lab, and VB). I have also gained the skill
to write reports at a high level.
2009 – 2011 Engineering introductory course, Narvik University College,
Narvik, Norway
This course contained slightly more advanced units than at High school level.
Mathematics, Chemistry, Magnetism and electricity, and Physics were the core units.
During the course I achieved an Average score of 70%.
During my two years at the college I have proven that I work well with others and am able to
complete the most time laboring tasks at a high level.
2005 - 2008 General Studies/High School, Narvik Videregående Skole,
Norway
The subjects I took were: Mathematics, Biology, History, Religion & Ethics, Norwegian,
gymnastics and Spanish. I took exams in Biology and Mathematics.
During my second year I was fortunate enough to get accepted for an exchange program

that sent me to the United States. While there, I studied Art, English, Spanish, Enhanced
Algebra, Astro-bio-Physics, Chemistry, History and Communication technology. I gained an
Average grade of B.
I have gained very useful skills from these studies, such as preliminary understanding of
some concepts later visited at university-level and the individual and team-based problem
solving.
I have also proven that I work well in a vastly different and new environment, and receiving
great credit.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
2014 – 2015 Senior Final Year BSc (Hons) Research Project
Titled: “Detecting Massive Galaxies at High Redshift Using the Dark Energy Survey”
The work was carried out in collaboration with The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation
(ICG) at the University of Portsmouth. This unique front-line research is aimed at
understanding the formation of early type galaxies and to be able to detect very young
objects in the Early Universe. The project set out to use the Dark Energy Survey’s Data and
the Workings of Davies et al. 2013 and others to detect high redshift galaxies, and to further
investigate whether the present theory of galaxy evolution must be revisited.
I aim to go beyond my preliminary results and to get conclusive results to show for.
Although the work was mainly individual, the majority of it was done in one of the PhD-
student rooms where I could get useful insights and also be able to collaborate with some of
the students there who were working on similar types of code or material. I believe this is
already a good basis for a good PhD that could possibly lead to a more elaborate
investigative effort.
2013 - 2013 Problem Based Learning Project
A project was done in collaboration with two of my peers to investigate the possibilities of
Energy Harvesting from Piezo Electric materials. We had roughly 8 weeks to finish and
present a complete run-through of our research, work and experiment. We had built a
system that used a magnetic field to oscillate a charge generating cantilever containing a
Lead-zirconate-titanate piezo electric material and measuring the resulting output voltage.

VOLENTEERING
2015 - 2015 Student Talker, University of Portsmouth Open Day.
I had the opportunity to give a talk to the prospective students applying to the University at
two separate occasions. I was there to answer any questions they might have had and also
giving a talk about my ongoing research with the ICG.
SKILLS PROFILE
Team work
A lot of experience was gained during my Laboratory physics
unit through being a part of a collaboration of students aiming
to complete a task. Through being a team leader I have received
the skills needed to guide and delegate work in a collaborative
project. Throughout my final year project I have been fortunate
enough to work alongside with PhD students at the ICG which
has greatly increased my experience in working with others.
Communication
Presentations to students during unit presentations, and the
collaborative processes involved in projects has given me the
confidence to present my work with ease.
Written coursework has been a big part of the degree, and thus
my writing skills are of high quality even though English is not
my native language.
Problem Solving
After completing mathematical units, I have gained the
experience to attack problems analytically and to apply it to
other areas.
Completed a problem based learning project, where problems
had to be solved within a given timeframe and expected from it,
the best possible results.

Computing skills
Highly proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Photoshop,
Cinema 4D, Mat Lab, Internet based research. I have gained
some of these skills from the work done in the units from
Applied Physics, and some of them from a great personal
interest.
INTERESTS
I love playing music, I have been a successful drummer for 10
years with a radio broadcasted band in Norway. I also play the
saxophone, piano and guitar.
I enjoy keeping up with the latest advances in Science.
Videogames are also a passion of mine
Work Experience
2010-2012 Sales Associate, Space World Narvik, Norway.
I was a sales man for a leading company in telecommunications, and
I was able to build up strategies for selling products and services.
Customer service was a big part of the job, thus my people skills are
elevated from this experience.
