RESEARCH
EXPERIENCE
Cambridge University Materials Department July 2016
Trained in pulsed laser deposition to grow PCMO YBCO LSMO spin-valves to measure
the magnetoresistance properties within a type II superconductor. To calibrate the deposi-
tion rate I used low-angle XRD and the magnetic data was collected using both cryogenic-free
and SQUID systems.
Cambridge University Materials Department July 2015
Within the same research group, I carried out my own project on the ferromagnetic prop-
erties of Fe-Rh alloys. With the help of a PhD student, I co-sputtered the Fe and Rh on
a silicon substrate, and measured the domain structure using a magnetic force microscope
as well as the hysteresis loops both in and out of plane via VSM. After only three weeks of
training, I was fully independent in collecting my data and sending it to my supervisor who
was abroad for a conference.
BAE Systems Materials Department in Stevanage July 2013
I investigated the effectiveness of a new UV-protective coating. This involved exposing both
coated and uncoated glass and carbon fibres to different doses of UV light. I quantified the
chemical and mechanical changes induced by the UV exposure through light microscopy, IR
spectroscopy and calorimetry.
PAID WORK Teacher support at The Leys School Cambridge September 2014
I was approached by my former teacher to help her settle in the new international students
at the school. I organised the timetabling for the English Support lessons for all the pupils.
I was responsible for some of the paper work, such as registering the pupils at the local
police station. I helped mark their entry tests and I was responsible for their pastoral care.
