CAREER OBJECTIVE:
To enter into the scientific community, preferably in the Astrophysical sector, to increase my skillset and
experience in preparation for a research career.
Education:
2016- present: Trinity College Dublin
Astrophysics and physics:
The course I am currently undertaking provides a strong background in core specialised concepts while
demanding a clear insight and understanding.
I have obtained a solid background in mathematics which provide a basis to my data analysis and modelling skills.
2008 - 2014: Franciscan College Gormanston
Practical skills gained during my degree:
Lab work provides hands on experience with practical elements related to my degree. They provide a means of
strengthening ability with computational models and data handling techniques.
I have obtained a secure background in the use of coding in data analysis, Python and IDL are used to aid lab
work. They have assisted in task with the electromagnetic spectrum, Signal processing using Fourier Analysis and
tackling large volumes of stellar data.
New mathematical techniques were used to improve computational time and accuracy e.g. calculus to solve
statistical models such as the Ising Model for a ferromagnetic material.
Skills:
Teamwork & research:
Labs require a degree of cooperation to achieve the desired goals within a strict time limit. I have undertaken
various projects within the academic environment.
Astro Physics Modules:
Stellar & Galactic structure
Statistical thermodynamics
& astrophysical Spectroscopy
Experimental techniques
Computer simulation
Quantum Mechanics
Atomic & Nuclear Physics
Condensed Matter
Practical in Astrophysics
Electromagnetic Interactions
2. Seán Brennan
I have volunteer in the TYPE program in association Trinity which involved explaining to secondary school
students about the planetary habitability zone concept. I encouraged discussion, portrayed the importance and
current status of Proxima b, provided a simple python coding lesson and explained research and referencing.
I’ve undertaken a project analysing the 2015 film The Martian, investigating the science behind the movie and
pointing out the questionable Movie magic. This project sparked an interest in astrodynamics which allowed me to
create a modelled solar system using python in my own time.
Computer & Practical Skills:
My degree encourages one to look at the physical world to provide an understandable and precise answer to
complex problems. I personally enjoy creating modelled systems using python and am currently working on an
accurate model to describe a series of spacecraft orbiting a star in order to harvest solar energy, as outlined by
Freeman Dyson in his 1960 paper "Search for Artificial Stellar Sources of Infrared Radiation".
A physical model is also being constructed which uses laser diodes, solar cells and Raspberry Pi to show proof of
concept. I hope this model may be used to entice curiosity to a younger generation.
I am also proficient in Microsoft office, Latex and Origin as well as image capture and editing software.

Work experience:
2015-present - Head waiter – The Kitchen Restaurant
This weekend job entitled running a busy Mediterranean restaurant through a busy lunch and dinner service.
Organising and preparing the dining room for wine evenings and business events. I have also catered for
weddings and business conference outside of the work place. The job demands co-operation and communication
between all the waiting and kitchen staff.
2013-present - Floor staff and salesman - Blacks Gardening centre
This periodic job involved running assisting the permanent floor staff during busy work times. I have recently
been called upon to help during the Christmas season selling trees and accessories. The job requires the use of
heavy machinery and communication.
Other experience has included various school volunteering events and teaching infants in primary school.
All of my work experiences have involved working within a team-based culture. This involved planning,
organisation, co-ordination and commitment
Interests:
I am an avid cyclist currently train for the An Post Rás. A future goal of mine is to compete and complete a
triathlon. Hiking, climbing and badminton are also hobbies of mine.
As an amateur astronomer I have a deep interest in astroimaging and spend time in rural areas observing
celestial bodies and astronomical events.
