5. Mt. Guiting-Guiting
(Sibuyan, Romblon)
The sheer jagged peaks of
Guiting-Guiting rise 2,075
meters above sea level in the
middle of Sibuyan Island. Wild
and unexplored, the
mountains present a challenge
to seasoned climbers. Hiring
experienced guides is a must.
Wild ferns, orchids, and
bonsai dot the rugged trails.
The summit provides views of
the entire island and
neighboring Romblon and
Marinduque.
7. St. Joseph Cathedral
and Belfry (Poblacion,
Romblon)
The Recollect fathers
built the oldest Roman
Catholic church in the
province out of
limestone and brick in
the 15th century. The
structure is embellished
with rich architectural
detail.
8. San Jose (San Jose,
Romblon)
The coastline of San Jose
town harbors some of the
most beautiful and
isolated beaches in the
province. Notable are the
ones located in Barangay
Lunas and Bignay.
Access to the coastal
village is limited to
bancas. Horses are the
major means of transport
to visit inland villages.
10. Parc Bay Mansion
Not the cheapest of all
the lodgings that are
located in town but I
highly recommend
this as it is located in
front of the pier. You
can also go to the roof
top to see a better
vantage point of the
surroundings.
11. Romblon Plaza Hotel
is a well-maintained
iconic landmark
in Romblon Town. It's
centrally located being
close to everything in
town. Walking distance
to pier, market, church,
capitol, Freedom Park,
etc. With it's 2-level
roofdeck above the 3rd
floor, guests get a scenic
view of the quaint harbor
and the surrounding
islands. The hotel owners
provides hands-on day to
day management.

13. Hunt and eat the Boknoy
Boknoy is a type of siopao
that is currently only found
in Romblon Island. The
difference between the
boknoy from the usual asado
and bolabola flavored siopao
is the sauce. Boknoy siopao
already has a sauce inside so
one could just eat it without
the messy application of
siopao sauce. If you want to
know how good it is, in my
visit to Romblon province I
ate a total of 15 pieces of
these.
14. Go up the Apunan
Point Lighthouse
One of my favorites are
these lonely sentinels of
the sea. And because
we were kind and the
caretaker was in a good
mood we were given the
priviledge not only to
see the lighthouse near
but also to climb up
and see the scenery.
15. Swim at Agbaliga
Waterfalls
I wasn’t expecting to
see Romblon Island to
have a waterfall but it
did and according to
locals there many. But
many of them are not
active during the dry
season. Fortunately,
the waterfalls at Brgy.
Agbaliga was active so I
get to enjoy the cool
water there.

17. Sarsa
Sarsa is a local dish
found only in
Romblon.The dish is
made out of small
shrimps caught in
streams, mixed with
young coconut and chili.
It is then wrapped in
coconut leaves, giving it
that local touch. You eat
the dish paired with
rice.Best to buy early in
the morning before it
runs out. It can be found
in their local carinderia
and wet markets.
18. Taghilaw
Taghilaw is pork meat
and intestines cooked
in vinegar sauce. A
dish similar in
preparation to
"dinuguan" but minus
the blood.
19. Gayabon
Gayabon, is
Romblon's version of
Laing. But what
makes it different is
that they use fresh
gabi cooked until the
leaves are mashed
into a pasty texture. It
is very chunky and is
not spicy like the
Bikolano version.
