Dear Recruiter or Unit Manager,
I am writing to state my interests in continuing my education and career in an ICU
setting at any Sacramento area hospital. I graduated from the Sacramento City College
Nursing Program on December 18th, 2014. I am currently enrolled in the University of
Texas at Arlington’s RN-BSN program that starts April of 2015. I believe my educational
background, critical thinking skills and work experiences will be extremely beneficial to
your unit. Sacramento’s has some of most comprehensive and accomplished medical
centers in California and this speaks a lot regarding the level of nursing care needed to
work within your facility. I feel I can fulfill the level of nursing care needed.
I have completed my preceptorship practicum on the Burn ICU at UC Davis Medical
Center. I have acquired excellent skills in evaluating the critically ill patient and acting out
their plan of care. My experience has given me the confidence and skills to care for
patients efficiently and safe. I also have the capability to work well with other healthcare
professionals and feel I would be an asset to your unit. I understand that good patient care
requires a solid foundation in nursing practice, prioritization and good communication
skills. These personal capabilities, coupled with my compassion in caring for others are
what I can offer to any unit as a new graduate RN.
Furthermore, I am proud of my nursing care on my home floor in 4th semester of
nursing school. I was on the transplant/metabolic unit at UC Davis and effectively
managed kidney transplant patients from immediately post op to discharge. I feel this
experience with all other med-surg clinical rotations have prepared me to be successful in
a critical care setting.
