SUMMARY
Obtaining large numbers of human neurons for drug screening and discovery is impossible. An
alternative strategy is to produce induced pluripotent stem cells from human tissue and
differentiate them to neurons in-vitro. We are currently automating this process so that we can
produce human neurons at scale for hundreds or even thousands of patient cell lines.
As an aspiring software engineer, I use a MEAN stack to produce user friendly tools for high content
imaging data tracking and analysis. I’ve also created two computational models to simulate the
process of synapse development. I know objective C, Java and Javascript well. I use MongoDB and
SQLite. I know enough Python and R to get by at work and my next language will be Scala or
Clojure.
My first open source project is nearing completion. MicroFlex will be the world’s first and most
flexible implementation of a microplate data structure. The MicroFlex library will provide
descriptive statistics, mathematical operations, input/output and numerous other plate based
features. Check back soon for links to the Java version on Github and Maven as well as a tutorial.
The Javascript version for Node.js and AngularJS will follow suit.
My goal is to be employed as a full time software engineer before the end of the year. If my skill set
