Who would be the audience for
your media product & how did you
attract them?
I've put question 4 and 5 together as they are both about my
target audience and I thought it would be easier this way!
Who?
Our target audience is 15- 24-year old’s (old teenagers,
young adults), we chose this because we know from
research that thrillers appeal more to them because they
like excitement and the adrenaline which comes from
these types of films. Film such as ‘Blair witch’ and
‘Paranormal activity’ which aimed at the same audience
we are aiming at and its found to be very successful and I
believe this has something to do with the theory of
Blumler and Katz. Their theory says people watch media
products to satisfy their needs to look for people in
different social circumstances and identity’s.
 We also know from our research that young people
and adults are playing the increasing genre of thriller
gaming. We did some research into the gaming
industry and it gave us an insight of what our target
audience enjoys etc. We took inspiration off films
such as 'Blair Witch' and 'The Ring', both in which was
very successful films and had a strong tie with young
adults as an audience. They gave their audience
excitement, curiosity and thrill. Also films that are
more recently out, such as ‘Bye Bye Man’ which is like
our thriller, was quite successful especially with the
same target audience we have that’s why I think our
thriller will be a good match with the target audience.
We hope with the amount of audience research we
did we related to the audience enough to for our
thriller to be a success to them.
How?
 The way we attracted our target audience is by
making social media accounts (Facebook,
twitter) which relate to our target audience
because it’s such a growing market and our
target audience is the largest segment which
use this platform. We also made some posters
for those that don't use social media so we
don't push aside those who could be part of
target audience. We also did some research
about our target and what they enjoy doing,
like playing thriller games, and used that when
planning our thriller.
