Let us read the following stories.
Jose: Our parents are fisher folks. Father catches fish from the sea.
Mother sells fish in the market. Gina goes to school. I go to school, too.
Baby Brother stays at home. Sister and I help at home. Grandfather and
Grandmother live in another town. Sometimes we visit them during
school holidays. Uncle also lives with us. He drives a tricycle. Aunt works
in Manila. She visits us every Christmas. Father, Mother, Uncle, Gina, Baby
Brother, and I go to church every Sunday. Our parents teach us to love
God by showing love and being fair to everyone.
We are a Filipino family.
Andrea: Father works in an office. Mother is a teacher. I go to school. My
brother Aron goes to school, too. He and I help at home. Grandmother
lives with us. Grandfather died three years ago. Uncle, Aunt, and our
cousins live in Canada. They visit us every two or three years.
Grandmother and Father go to the Buddhist temple to pray. They follow
the teachings of Buddha. Mother, Aron, and I are Christians. Our religions
teach us to be good people. We are a Filipino family.
Aniway: Our parents are farmers. Father plants rice, kamote, and
vegetables. Mother works at home. Sometimes she works in the field,
too. My brother Kawis goes to school. He helps Father in the field when
he can. I go to school as well. I help Mother when I am at home. Father
and Kawis also help Mother and me with the chores. Grandfather lives
with us. He helps look after us. Grandmother died five years ago. Uncle,
Aunt, and my cousins live with us. Uncle and Aunt help to farm the field.
Our cousins go to school with us. We are Ifugaos. We believe that the
land, water, and all of creation are sacred. We believe we must look after
each other and Mother Earth with love. We are a Filipino family.
Abdul: Our parents are merchants. Father sells brassware, malongs, and
many other items in our stores. Mother helps Father in the store, She
works at home, too. Fatima and I go to school. We also help at home and
in the store. Uncle lives with us. He goes to the village to buy the items
sold in our family store. Aunt is a school teacher. She teaches in the
public high school in town. Grandmother and Grandfather live with us.
They teach us to be good children. We are Muslims. We believe in Allah,
our God. Our religion, Islam, teaches us to live in peace, justice, and
forgiveness.
We are a Filipino family.
3. Neneng: Our parents are street peddlers, Father sells boiled peanuts and
corn on the streets. Mother cooks the peanuts and corn and helps sell
them sometimes. Ramon helps earn some money. He sells newspapers
before he goes to school. I help Mother at home after school. Father and
Ramon also help at home. Grandfather and Grandmother live with us.
They help look after us. We are Christians. We follow the teachings of
Jesus Christ. We treat people with love and kindness.
We are a Filipino family.
Dominic: Our parents are businesspeople. Father owns a business.
Mother helps him run the business. Diana and I go to school every day.
We ride our car to get there. Our house helper does most of the work at
home. Mother does some of the work, too. My sister and I help at home
on weekends. Grandfather and Grandmother live in Baguio. We visit
them every summer. Uncle and Aunt are doctors. They live next door.
We are a Filipino family.
A Filipino child like you have your own role in your family and in the
community.
