2. Things to consider
before taking home a
new dog!
1. Does your landlord
allow dogs? If so is
there a weight
limit?
2. Do you have a
fenced in
backyard?
3. Do you time for the
dog?
4. Are you willing to
do any training if
necessary?
5. Do you have other
dogs? If so do they
get along with
other dogs or are
they territorial?
6. Do you plan on
moving in the next
year or so? If so,
will that new place
allow dogs?
Remember! Most dogs take time
to adjust to new homes! Here are
tips to help your new dog adjust!
1. Let them sniff around for a
bit and follow behind them
as they explore
2. If you have small children,
hold the dog on a leash or
by the collar and have the
child(ren) walk up to it
slowly and sniff their palm
then let them lightly pet
them.
3. Show them where they will
be sleeping, go to the
bathroom, and eat!
4. Show them the boundaries
of your yard.
5. Be Patient! It can be
stressful for them as well as
you! They need to adjust.
If taking home a
puppy!!
1. Are you willing to go
through the puppy
stage?
2. Do you have toys for
them to chew on?
3. Are you going to keep
them in a crate while
away at work/school?
4. Will you be able to get
it the necessary shots?
5. Are you willing to
spend the time to potty
train?
6. Do you have older dogs
or cats that will like the
new puppy?
Be sure to do your
