Hanna Design Group, Inc. started as a retail consulting architectural
group in 1992. Quickly, we found the needs of the customer went
beyond having an accurate set of documents. Construction soon
became a substantial part of our business. The success of the project
shifts from architecture to the construction side of the business, and
once you’re doing the construction, the design and purchasing fall into
place. HDG had a unique opportunity and the ability to adapt to
specialized needs of each client or provide full service professionals
that could deliver a project from concept to completion.
Starting Hanna
Design, Inc. with
a one-room
office and a
part-time shared
assistant in
1992, the
objective was
to assemble a team of highly
skilled, experienced designers,
architects, and general
construction experts to serve
a growing market looking for
support and direction in this
ever-challenging retail
market.
Michael Hanna started his
career on the sales floor of a
retail store in Michigan. Over
the past 25 years he has held
various executive positions in
the specialty, department
store and home furnishings
industries.
His primary achievements
throughout his career have
been his ability to surround
himself with a strong team of
top performers. Known in the
industry for his persistence,
creativity, and decisiveness, he
has consistently been part of
a management team which
was clearly performance
driven.
Michael maintains a very
active role in the day-to-day
business, keeping the team
focused on the fundamentals
of design construction and
maintaining a highly creative
environment.
The team has evolved into four departments:
Architecture • Interior Design • Graphic Design • Construction
As we look to the future, we think our success will come from our
partnerships with the client and our unusual ability to be absolutely
candid. This process is serious, but it can be fun and we try to keep a
good balance between the two.
Objective - As a first-up professional Studio for its Owners, “Center For Ballroom
& Dance” at Deer Park Town Center was intended to function as a multi-faceted
dance facility, for a wide range of users. We needed not only to cater to different
‘styles’ of dance, each with its own set of requirements, but had to respond to the
‘core operating’ / management of the Center as a whole. This was especially challeng-
ing in the Space Planning phase of the Project. All of these functions would have to
be presented to the user in an up-scale environment which would speak ‘simple
elegance.’
Result - The Center For Ballroom & Dance has already received recognition as one
of the finest facilities in its class. For the recreational novice dancer up through a
careered professional, with integrated audio and video, the instruction to their
students is optimized. Additionally, the interior articulation of spaces, fixture selec-
tions, millwork and color, all create a lively, energetic and ‘upbeat’ space – exceeding
its owner’s expectations.

Objective - Create an environment that represents Motorola’s global market that
would serve as a host to both domestic and foreign business leaders that attend
conferences at the Schaumburg facility. The focus was to create spaces that would
adapt to the wide variety of business seminars, events, and educational programs.
Result - An international format, utilizing warm woods, interesting architectural
elements and stylized, yet functional furniture. Motorola’s “Windows to the World”
are small window type vitrines in the main seating area, showcasing Motorola’s
global business relationships. The conference table and visitor-eating designs are the
combination of communication and comfort by the use of texture and high impact
shapes complementing the existing lines of the space. Thus, producing an overall-
inspiring environment to collaborate and create.
