2. ENGADGET BRINGS TECH
to cutting edge consumers
A gadget review blog was born
Founded in 2004, Engadget set out to review all of the new gadgets that came to market. They
related mostly to the uber-geeky crowd who cared more about chips and processor speeds than,
for example, how Fitbit might one day change how people think about health and fitness.
As the tech market evolved, so did Engadget’s coverage
Over the next few years, as more and more technology went online and on our smartphones,
and all classes of people adopted technology in some form, Engadget began to focus on more
mainstream gadgets and expand its reporting to include all facets of the consumer tech industry.
Engadget doubled-down on mainstream tech
Today, Engadget resonates with all kinds of people—early adopters, tech-savvy grandmas,
influential and discerning millenials, and “just tell me what I should buy” shoppers. Technology that
once seemed like science fiction—drones, human organs printed in a lab, leisurely flights into
space—are now regular highlights in our news feeds. And Engadget is reporting on it all.
Just as technology continues to evolve, mystify, and integrate itself into every aspect of humanity,
Engadget continues to solidify its reputation in the marketplace and among readers as the
definitive guide to our 24/7 connected lives.
3. NEW EDITORIALLEADERSHIP
has elicited immediate, positive
reader response
In 2014, Michael Gorman and Christopher Trout—longtime Engadget writers—took
over as editor-in-chief and executive editor, respectively.
Since they implemented their vision for Engadget, traffic has steady grown YoY.
