Rhodes House, which housed the City Club
was built in 1897 by the very well-known
architect Sir Herbert Baker. The Cape Town
Club is moving back to this building in May
2014, where they originated from in 1858.

We’ve partnered with Tromps Restoration and are in
process of restoring this heritage building back to its formal
glory. There were numerous spalling- and plaster repairs
completed to the external facades which was mostly caused
by water ingress through failed coatings.
The building is coated with Hydrosilk which is a top quality
100% adhesion promoted pure acrylic emulsion designed to
give maximum durability and colour, with excellent UV and
alkali resistant properties. It also dries to a pleasant sheen
finish.
Sir Herbert Baker (9 June 1862 – 4
February 1946) was a British
architect. Baker was born and died in
Cobham, Kent, but was the
dominant force in South African
architecture for two decades, 1892–
1912.
Among the many churches, schools and houses he
designed in South Africa are the Union Buildings Pretoria,
St John's College, Johannesburg, Wynberg Boys School,
Cape Town and Groote Schuur - Rhodes' remodelled
house on the slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town and
the Champagne Homestead and Rhodes Cottage on the
historic seventeenth century estate Boschendal, between
Franschhoek and Stellenbosch

waterproofing coatings are currently being applied.
Hydroclad - Hydroclad is a butadiene derivative
based paint designed for walls and roofs. This rubber-
like paint is extremely flexible when cured and forms a
seamless durable waterproofing barrier that tolerates
substrate movements.
Hydroplast - Hydroplast is an economical alternative
to other masonry paints. This high performance coating
is fast curing and consecutive coats can be applied in
the same day throughout the year. Consequently, it can
lead to faster contract completion and corresponding
cost reduction.
Super Fibretex – Super Fibretex is a high quality
acrylic textured coating designed to be applied to
external walls with hairline cracks. Contains natural
fibres which criss-cross in a net fashion to bridge
unsightly cracks and to reinforce this highly flexible
waterproof coating.
Super Fibretex - Super Fibretex is specially
formulated with cellulose fibres to give a slight textured
appearance and bridge hairline cracks without being
too rough. This results in a coating that has low dirt
retention, giving a much longer coating life

Dekro Allroof - A top quality 100% adhesion
promoted pure acrylic roof paint which dries to a low
sheen finish for roofs of galvanised iron, asbestos
cement and cement roof tiles. Can be applied to damp
surfaces. Highly recommended for above surfaces
where outstanding adhesion, alkali resistance, water-
and weather resistance is required.
Dekro Rainproof – Rainproof is a waterproofing
paint if used as a liquid membrane. A water-based
acrylic that can be applied to damp surfaces, which is
non-toxic and non-irritant. Resistant to mould and
fungus growth.
Aquablock - A complex aluminium compound with
outstanding waterproofing properties. Normally used as
a water repellent coating over absorbent surfaces, i.e.
masonry, concrete, stone and bricks, etc. It impregnates
and seals porous surfaces.
