Course Description:
Overview:Thisisacourse focusedonwomeninleadership,leadershipdevelopmentandleadershipin
engineering.Throughexperientiallearning,empoweringexamples,groupdiscussion,writtenreflections,
attendance atthree conferences,one retreatandcompletionof twoshortpapersandone majorproject,you
will developthe self-knowledge andskillstopractice leadershipforachangingworld,explore yourown
potential forleadership,explore the contextforthe practice of leadershipandlearntomake a difference
throughleadership.BeginninginAugustandworkingthroughMay,youwill workindividuallyandinteamsto
produce a final projectthatshowshowyour ownskillsandknowledge aboutleadershipcanyouhelpyouuse
your passionandengineeringdegree toimpactthe worldaroundyou.
Requirements:Full participationinall classes,assignmentsandoutside-class(PRE-PLANNED) activities/events
ismandatory.Out of class workincludesshortblogposts,anonline assessment,twoshortpapersanda final
passionproject.
Unlessotherwise stated,all assignmentsare due before the beginningof classthatday.
Grading:This course istakenfor a lettergrade.Gradesare assignedonthe basisof classparticipation
(includingclassattendanceandeventattendance)(30%),blogreflections(5%),papers(15%) andthe passion
project(50%).
PercentagesasAssignedtoLetterGrades:
There isno preconceiveddesignationof the numberof studentstoreceive eachgrade,noranyceilingonthe
numberof "As"to be assigned if all studentsexhibitthe standardof performance expectedforthatgrade.
93% andabove will be reservedforan"A"
83 – 92% for a "B"
73 – 82% for a "C"
81% andbelowan“F”.
2. Attendance:Youare expectedtoattendall classesandevents.However,the instructorsare aware that life
happens.Youare allowedone excusedabsence persemester.Expectinemergency,we mustbe notifiedin
advance.

Difference (3rd
edition) bySusanR.Komives,Nance LucasandTimothyR.McMahon. Thisbookwill be
