Engineering Supervisor
I have been working in industrial maintenance since my junior year of college in 2004. I have been working since
high schooltowards a goal in engineering supervision. I have continually taken the hard and different job to round
out my experience. I have a degree in electrical engineering, but have worked as a mechanical supervisor, electrical
supervisor, quality assurance officer, and assistant engineering manager. I am continually learning and working to
make things better. I thrive off of change and continued improvement.
Experience
Program Manager 2012 - Present
Navy Recruiting Command, Millington,Tennessee
At Navy recruiting command I am essentially a hiring manager for the enlisted nuclear Navy. I am responsible for
the review, hiring, shipping, and management of 3,200 applicants that go to boot camp every year to be a nuke. I
manage about 250 recruiters across all 50 states to ensure we are reaching our accessions goals. This often requires
me to travel to the districts to interface with my staff to ensure compliance or help them with trouble areas and
conduct training.
Totally revamped the waiver process to include a waiver tracking database to increase accuracy, customer
service, efficiency, and reporting. The database also allowed me to track approval percentage at various
levels and ensure all waivers were being handled at the appropriate level.
Used the new tools that I developed to reduce my boss’s workload by over 50% from my level. By
reducing the level of reviews required, this also lowered the lag time to the field and saved time at all levels
of the organization.
Division Officer 2009 - 2012
USS City of CorpusChristi (SSN 705),Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Apra Harbor, Guam
Worked as a division officer either directly in charge of a division of 8-15 sailors or assisting a department head
with a department of 60 enlisted sailors. Operationally, I operated as the captain’s direct representative in charge of
the nuclear reactor or entire submarine both in port and at sea. Conducted two major maintenance periods in the
shipyard, completed four missions vital to national security, completed several inspections and minor maintenance
availabilities.
I took over as quality assurance officer for a failing program. Using root cause analysis and by
implementing a rigorous training and qualification program I was able to turn the program into one of the
best on the water front.
I stood the mid watch engineering officer of the watch and officer of the deck – the commanding officer put
complete trust in me to take care of affairs on the ship while he was sleeping and still held accountable. I
left the ship ranked the #1 division officer onboard out of 11 officers.
During our last major availability I was charged with coordination between the shipyard and ship for all
maintenance items. This included 13 shipboard divisions and countless shipyard agencies. The
coordination of tags, personnel, parts, and maintenance packages was a logistical nightmare with no one
overall responsible until I stepped up to fill the gap.
Nuclear Operator 2007 – 2009
Navy NuclearTraining Command, Charleston,South Carolina
After college I enrolled in the Navy’s nuclear training pipeline. This is an almost two year pipeline that teaches the
operators the theory behind nuclear physics. This included masters level courses on nuclear theory followed by six
months hands on operational training on a nuclear prototype.
2. Continuing Education Clerk 2002 – 2007
University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee
During college I worked as a clerk in a campus office. I maintained this job my entire time at the University of
Memphis while on campus. My duties included registering students forvarious noncredit classes. Issuing refunds
for canceled classes, answering telephones, and various otherclerical responsibilities. I left this job for the US
Navy.
Industrial Electrician Intern Summers of 2004, 2005
NUCOR Steel,Blytheville,Arkansas
I spent one summer in the roll shop and one summer in the cold mill of a 450 employee steel manufacturing plant.
My duties included working on special projects as well as some day to day maintenance operations with the on shift
electricians. I was offered a full time position, but turned it down to join the Navy and see the world.
Roofer Summer of 2003
Frazier Roofing, Dyersburg, Tennessee
I worked as a general laborer at a roofing company. I did hot tar roofing and then worked my way up to flashing,
gutterinstillation, and metalwork. I worked for three months in Tennessee heat and learned a lot about myself and
my goals in life this summer. I refocused on my academics and my goal of becoming an engineering supervisor.
Crew Leader 1998 – 2002
Burger King, Dyersburg, Tennessee
During high schoolI worked at Burger King and eventually worked my way to shift supervisor. While at burger
king I helped with inventory as well as training and hiring new employees and shift operation. I was offered a job as
manager prior to transferring to college, but due to my schoolactivities was not able to do the job due to the time
drain. I quit this job when I left for college.
