2. Our preliminary task went well in the pre-
production stage because we were all able to
get our points across so everyone had input
in the way we made the final product. This
meant that the final product turned out the
way we intended it as we had a detailed plan.
I think that it would have been better if we
spent more time thinking about each stage as
we approached it rather than thinking ahead
to the filming as we were still creating our
storyboard.
3. We used the iPads to film our preliminary task
as it has a built in camera and it is straight
forward to use. I think that it worked to good
effect as it was simple for us to take our
shots, it was difficult to ensure that the
camera was steady at all times so the final
product isn’t at a great quality in comparison
to what we would have liked.
4. I learnt from filming that the editing process is what
needs to be the main focus for the final project, to do
this effectively we need to take as many shots as
possible from different angles and then take time
editing them to make sure there isn’t any continuity
errors. I also learnt that the different shots are used
at different stages for their effect for example, an
establishing shot sets the scene. I think to improve
our piece we needed to make sure that all of the
scenes were filmed on the same day or using the
same props, in our task the mafia boss wore a blue
shirt throughout the beginning of the film but then in
the middle it changed to a white shirt. Although it
wasn’t completely noticeable it is something we
would work on in the future.
5. We used iMovie to edit our preliminary task
as it is more effective for editing in
comparison with windows movie maker. This
is because it is easier to edit clips together
with more precision as you can cut clips a lot
easier. This made it ideal for us to use as it
reduces the likelihood of continuity errors in
a piece of film.
6. Our preliminary task does meet the criteria as
it includes match on action, shot/reverse shot
and the 180 degree rule. We also use a range
of camera shots in our piece, including an
establishing shot, a close up, a mid shot and
a long shot.
7. I think that the preliminary task has allowed us to
look at what we were able to do in a short period
of time and assess the quality of what was
produced. I have learnt that shots need to be
taken multiple times to ensure that it looks
perfect when they are edited together because
continuity errors are something that we need to
avoid in our final piece. I have also learnt that
using a variety of shots is useful as it allows you
to add effect to the scene as you can change the
focus of the scene by doing so.
