2. What have you learned during the
making of your preliminary task?
During the making of my preliminary task I have learnt how to plan for a short
video, by the use of a storyboard. We used to story board to plan what shot
types were going to be used and when, also in order to plan the activity of
the characters so we know what we are going to do at all points.
I have also learnt how to use a tripod and to operate the camera.
Additionally I have learnt how to effectively manage my time in order to meet
the deadlines, however we did feel rushed towards the deadline due to
changed that needed to be made.
During the preliminary task we experienced that it is hard to ensure that you
don’t get continuity errors due to trying to coordinate outfits and the scene
to keep the same each day that you film a new shot.
3. Areas of success
I think that the finished version of our preliminary task is good, we used a
variety of shots and we managed our time well, however we did cut it a little
short towards the end. I feel we should have spent a little more time editing
the piece.
The group worked generally well together, but there was times where we had
disagreements.
We used several transitions on our finished version between the shots.
Our story board was useful, we used it as a guideline but we did make a fair
amount of changes.
Overall the finished version did workout of and the sequence flowed.
4. Areas for development
I feel as though we could have included a few more shots, for example a point
of view shot and a low shot.
Next time I think we should spend more time making sure our plan is
developed in detail and tracks every thing we are going to do in order to help
us use our time in the most effective way so we don’t cut ourselves short for
editing again.
We need to ensure that the match on action is clearer and flows better next
time.
I think we need to spend more time trying different things with the editing
software next time in order to make the finished version run smooth and to
make it look effective.
5. How well did you meet the brief?
I think that we did obey the 180 degree rule when filming the shot/reverse shots,
as the camera was always within the 180 degree boundary when filming and you
could clearly see who was talking.
The shot reverse shots were ok although we got a little too much of the body into
the shots, so next time it would be better to work more on the framing.
With match on action we tried to make it look smooth however when filming it
down the corridor, we need to use a different technique next time as it went
wrong because it didn't look like the camera angle had changed.
6. Evaluate your contribution to the groups
work?
I did a small amount of acting at the start of the video.
I also shot some of the footage we used.
I had a little mess around with the editing software to see what features we
could add in order to add effect to the finished version.
From this I have gained more experience with being able to film, I have learnt
how to plan a storyboard also I have learnt some of the basics of the editing
software.
I was flexible within my roles and was happy to do a little bit of everything in
order to gain some experience in all areas.
I think as a whole our group worked well in order to get the task done in the
given time.
