2. Specific Groups
Individuals struggling with
interpersonal relationships and
basic social skills, are often
confronted with the difficult reality
that they do not fit in well with
their peers. Individuals with
interpersonal difficulties (i.e., those
with Autism Spectrum Disorder
and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder) tend to have lower self-
esteem, more anxiety, and
depressed feelings.
Social difficulties impact
individuals of all ages, along with
their families. Groups are separated
based on age and skill level to
maximize learning opportunities.
The following groups are being
offered:
Social Skills Group: Children
Social Skills Group: Teens
A Parent Support Group will also
be offered to provide parents an
opportunity to learn and reinforce
the skills being taught maximize
the child’s success.
Group Therapy
The CDCW Social Skills Group is
focused on identifying social
difficulties, improving interpersonal
skills, and developing in-depth
insight based on feedback and direct
guidance.
Under the direction of the group
leaders, participants will gain
valuable life skills. By working
together to develop those skills, the
participants will not only improve
their skill set, but they may develop
important social connections through
the process—allowing them the
opportunity to strengthen their skills.
Purpose & Goals
The purpose of this group is to
teach social skills. A large part of
this process is direct instruction.
Topics will be addressed each week
in order to increase awareness of
nonverbal communication, self-
regulation strategies, coping skills,
and friendship building. Through
the group format, however,
participants are able to apply these
skills in a safe, therapeutic
environment.
Primary goals include:
Improve awareness of social
deficits
Increase the application of
effective social skills
Demonstrate improved emotional
management strategies
Improve interpersonal skills,
including relationship building
