Dear Colleagues,
Only once a year can you find so many training opportunities from leading experts in their field in one
place in Indiana, and that is at the Indiana Emergency Response Conference. As this year’s IERC draws
near, I want to encourage all of our public safety professionals including Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement
and Emergency Management personnel to take this opportunity to learn from the best Indiana has to
offer. With workshops in Fire and EMS management, EMS clinical opportunities, adult education, special
operations, hazardous materials, law enforcement, LEPC, and lectures in all disciplines on a variety of
topics, this year’s conference has something for everyone and promises to be the best yet.
One of the best attributes of the IERC is the opportunity to network with public safety professionals and
old friends from across the state at the many social events scheduled. These include the Chief Matt Aker
Memorial Golf Outing, the annual awards banquet, the IERC Opening Ceremonies, Casino Night, and
Silent Auction; all promise to be exciting and memorable events.
This year, IERC attendees should take the opportunity to attend an Indiana Emergency Response
Committee Meeting, an Indiana Firefighters Board Meeting, and a question and answer session with
Indiana EMS Commission Members. Learn how decisions affecting public safety in Indiana are made, and
take the opportunity to have your voices heard by policymakers.
No conference is complete without a robust exhibitor display with the latest in emergency response
management equipment and supplies. Be sure to stop by the IDHS Mobile Simulation Laboratory display
where not only the latest in Simulation Education will be on display, but attendees will have the
opportunity to create their IDHS Public Safety Portal Account on the computers at the display, learn
about the new EMS certification levels, paramedic licensure, on line EMS and Fire certification and
license renewal, and the transition to a new EMS educational model. Joining IDHS will be the Indiana
State Department of Health whose staff will be available to answer questions regarding the Indiana
Trauma System and discuss their other response initiatives.
Yes, the IERC promises to be the best ever, and I hope to see a lot of old friends and make some new
ones at the IERC this September 12-15th.
Professionally,
Rick Archer, AS, Paramedic, MEP
Indiana State EMS Director
