The impacts of social media and news consumption
Highlights
• The impact of social media news use on selective
exposure is conditioned by news information overload.
• The impact of social media news use on willingness to
pay is conditioned by news information overload.
• Frequent social media news use is associated with
speed of journalism.
• Frequent social media news use is related to
disagreement with traditional journalistic norms.
• News consumptions interact with news information
overload and influence perceived news quality.
Social Media has caused a speed of spreading information that usually can not be matched by newspaper
and video broadcasts. This quick and powerful platform can often be troublesome and is accused of being
too fast. Social medias influence on peoples day to day lives can make it very easy to create rumours that
spread like wildfire before they can be verified, meaning that often fake news has been spread causing
many people to believe something that isn’t true. And due to many social media platforms being open to
different opinions and allow freedom of speech making it so no one can necessarily gets into trouble for it.
The first silent movie was produced by Thomas Edison. The movie only lasted 12 minutes
and was called ‘The Great Train Robbery (1903)’ it was the first narrative movie. The
Great Train Robbery's popularity led directly to the opening up of permanent movie
theatres and the possibility of a future film industry.
The First Talking Movie, was made by Warner Bros and released on
October 6 1927. The "Talkies" saw the end of the Silent Movies with
the release of the first Talking Movie called 'The Jazz Singer'.
Warner Bros used its new Vitaphone brand of sound disc
technology with synchronized sound. The Jazz Singer Movie had 6
songs but little dialogue, there was only 350 spoken words. Despite
their limits the movie was a hit and all the Hollywood studios soon
became wired for sound.
‘Jason and the Argonauts' was made in 1963 produced by Charles H.
Schneer and directed by Don Chaffey, the movie feathered special
effects for one of the first times at such a grand scale in history. The
movie involved different fictional creatures such as dragons and
skeletons, it achieved a high amount of likes from the public and
continues to be watched by some in the present.
Compared to the special effects from the movie ‘End Game’ theses effects are a
lot less enhanced then what we have today. For example technologies such as
green screens and body suits were not available at the time the movie ‘Jasona
and the Argonauts’ was made. The movie ‘End Game’ features many different
advanced screens which show case flying, fighting, super strength, lasers and
super powers all of which require special.
