2. STANDING FLOAT SERVING
• In volleyball, the skill that the athlete has the most control over
is the standing serve. The server can control her toss, footwork,
and arm swing in the way she wants to. For this reason,
standing serves typically are the least prone to error; however,
they still require significant coordination. This section covers the
standing float and standing spin serves.
3. PREPARATION
• Stand two steps behind the end line close to defensive
assignment.
• Square feet, hips, and shoulders to target.
• Put weight on foot on dominant side.
• Hold ball in non dominant hand.
• Extend non dominant arm to target.
• Cover top of ball with dominant hand.
4. SERVE
• Draw elbow of dominant arm to ear.
• Lightly toss ball 2 feet (6 m) up in front of dominant
shoulder.
• Step to ball with non- dominant foot opposite
your striking arm.
• Contact center of ball with open palm.
5. FOLLOW-THROUGH
• Drive hand through ball.
• Keep palm square to target zone.
• Drive dominant foot for- ward and move to defen- sive position.
6. FOREARM LINEAR PASSING
When you have successfully used your footwork to get your
body behind the ball’s path and your contact point with the ball
is below your neck, you will perform the most controlled and
consistent passing technique: forearm linear passing.

• Extend arms into ball’s path.
• Lock elbows.
• Align fingers and thumbs.
• Turn thumbs to ground.

• Contact ball on largest area of forearms.
• Transfer weight from back foot to front foot.
• Limit the swing of the platform at the shoulder.
