For my Consumer Behavior class we had to take a product or service that did not exist and create a consumer behavior strategy and outline for the product. This service that was created by me for this project has turned into an actual business operated by a family friend.
2. Basic Idea
Localrole is a basic service that connects people who have real problems, real
jobs, real tasks that need to be done and simply don't have the time to do
them, or which we all hate to admit, are too lazy to do.
3. Step by Step
In a straight shot from start to finish, here's how it works.
Step 1: I need a task completed, for example I need my dog to be walked,
Wednesday afternoon while I am out at my dentist appointment. I post this
task up onto the Localrole page with a price I am willing to pay.
Step 2: Taskers who are available for this job will see the job if their skill sets
match up, which for walking a dog would include almost all taskers, and be
able to bid on the job. Bidding can start as low as $1 but ultimately it is up to
the person who posted the job to accept an offer.
Step 3: Once an offer is accepted, private messages can be sent through a
messenger about times, location, payments, ect.
4. Step by Step cont.
Step 4: Whoever accepted the job will go do the job.
Step 5: Once job is completed, Tasker will check box on the Localrole page or
app that it was completed and a message will be sent to the job poster to
accept the job has been completed to his/her satisfaction within 24 hours or
automatic payment will occur.

6. Targeting cont.
Psychographics:
The 9 to 5
Eager students ($$$)
The community oriented elderly
The working professional
Localrole Pro
Behavior
2 sided model
The lazy and the go-getters
7. Strategy
Huge open via social media to get the mass media aware of our service.
With a site that requires sign ups and members, social media is now the
quickest way to do so.
Our potential in the current area is 10,000-50,000 members within the first
few months.
Within 2 years time we expect to be in all major US cities along the east coast and
south and have up to 100 Localrole sites, accumulating upwards of a million to five
million users.
8. SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Unique in every category
Endless innovative possibilities
Easy to start new platforms in other cities
Weaknesses
Angie’s List dominates the market
Necessity to have large member/user base
9. SWOT Analysis cont.
Opportunities
Endless opportunity
Localrole in every major city/area
Threats
Angie’s List
10. Surveying
1. Has there been a time you would have paid someone to help you out
because you simply didn't have the time?
2. Has there been a time you would have used your work skills to do odd
jobs for someone to make extra money?
3. Do you believe is someone does not have time to do certain jobs around
the house that they would hire someone to do it, if they knew it would be
cost efficient?
4. Do you have uncompleted things that need to get done at your
house/apartment and don't know when you will have the time to do them?
5. Describe a time when you needed someone's help completing a job you
didn't have time for.
15. Conclusions
Students at high point when surveyed said that they would all use their skills
to do odd jobs to earn extra money. This proving Generation Y is an accurate
and effective demographic target.
In doing research I went to visit a elderly housing center and concluded with
my discussions with residents that all of them would like to give back to the
community and would pay people to do the tasks they aren't capable of doing
themselves. This proving that baby-boomers is an accurate and effective
demographic target.
16. Conclusions cont.
In an interview in which I asked questions to an employee at an
unemployment office in North Carolina and she responded to, I concluded
that not only me and my team, but her also speaking for the office thought
that a way to provide professionals who are unemployed with work would
lead to a drastic drop in unemployment.
After surveying the students at High Point University, I concluded that most
people have paid someone to do something for them when they did not have
the time.
I have lastly concluded that Localrole has potential to do the same it is
currently doing in the Triad under multiple platforms and run effectively the
same way in other major cities or areas.
17. Recommendations
Should not launch a platform in another area or city until the Triad platform is
launched and tweaked to top performance and bugs are fixed
Should continue to target the general population as a demographic but
targeted focus should be on two groups: Generation Y and the baby-boomers
Best opportunity for a launch and getting a lot of members and users at the
beginning is a social media launch
18. Recommendations cont.
The population that was surveyed at High Point University showed that men
and women think differently about the idea
Localrole will thrive based off its pure uniqueness in every category.
Editor's Notes
This is a difficult target audience to market a sophisticated mobile and technological platform to just because of the general lack of technological savvy in this generation. As the population of people over the age of 60 grows more every single day, so does the number of people who cannot leave their homes due to disabilities and lack of strength due to old age. Studies show that 85% of all people who take care of disabled parents who cannot leave home would rather pay someone else to do it because they are simply too busy.
This generation is being targeted because it includes late teens and young adults like me who are in high school, college, or just finished college. Anyone in high school or college knows the struggles of finding a job, making money, producing income, and living independently without relying on your parents for every penny. What better way to make money than by doing these odd jobs around the area like picking up groceries for an elderly lady 2 blocks away, or walking a dog for a few minutes for quick pocket cash? There isn't one. This creates a golden opportunity for high school and college kids with the will to make money and a little skill to do genuine work for good pay.
With the simple 9-5 employees, they get home from work and want to kick the shoes off and kick back in the recliner and watch their TV shows on the DVR. They don't want to go to the grocery store, walk the dog, clean the house, do laundry, pick up the dry cleaning, remove leaves from the yards, ect. The list is endless as most home-owners know.
For the students eager to make money, like I once was, the feel of money, smell of money, feeling of spending it, is unlike any other. People love money. Especially college students and high school students and when they want to make some extra cash on the side, Localrole makes it as easy as 1,2,3.
For the elderly wanting to give back to the community, this service provides the opportunity. My grandpa loves to get the children of his neighborhood to help him out in his garden, cleaning his pool, cleaning his garage, washing his car and he pays all of them because he simply wants to help them get that new video game they want or whatever that need may be. This allows the service to be streamlined and organized.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, ect. Research has shown that platforms similar to what we are doing have been successful via social media launches at their birth.
both of them agree that not only would they pay someone to do something they don't have time for but would also do odd jobs in their spare time to make extra money
The fact the platform works both ways for people who need things done who can pay for them to be done by someone else and people who have skills and time to do these tasks for extra money differentiates us from other companies who are similar. The ebay bidding factor develops a new way of finding someone to complete your task and if the person bidding has connected their social media accounts, you can see them and learn more about them. Your choice is incredibly selective and allows you to choose someone that not only will do it for a good price but someone you can trust and get to know.
