2. Yes, but that’s hard. Let’s make
things easier with technology.
Yes, but how do you know that’s
what you really want to do? 75%
of College students pick the wrong
major and 9 out of 10 hate their
jobs afterwards.
Can’t I just pick a major and hope I
like the career that follows suit?
After all, that’s what everyone else
is doing.
Yes but wouldn’t job shadowing
someone directly from your
industry and connecting with
that person be so much more
beneficial?
I feel disconnected from the
industry I have chosen. Can’t I
attend networking events?
Yes, but what if you don’t get
accepted because you don’t have
the skill set. Then you can’t try
different things. Plus, they are long
term and not for trying it before
you buy it.
Can I get an internship instead?
Can I use my
network to
job shadow?
What are my alternatives as a student?

3. Job Shadowing
1. Try before you buy. No time commitment to something
the student might not like. Company doesn’t have to
commit several months to training the student yet before
they know if they even like it.
2. Actually see first hand what the job is like in practice
not in theory
3. Student is able to connect with the person they are
observing and ask things like “ How did you get here,
and what can I do to be in the same place?”
4. Student can get a taste of the culture of the company.
1. Student must commit their whole summer or a quarter
of school to it. Company has to commit to student for
the entire summer as well and suffer the consequences if
student isn’t motivated.
2. Student gets coffee, makes copies, or runs other
miscellaneous errands and misses out on the core
elements of the job of the person they are interning for.
3. Opportunity to connect as well but you might not have
the time to ask as you are running menial tasks for them
all day long.
4. Student can get a taste of the culture of the company
over a longer period of time. Could be a waste of time if
they know after day two, the company culture isn’t
for them.

18. “SweetLabs is psyched to use the Betagig app! Sharing our special

“Our company’s philosophy on job shadowing aligns perfectly with
Betagig’s mission. The current systems in place and programs available
to individuals looking to make a move in the job market are broken.
Betagig transforms the career searching paradigm from fear and doubt
to empowerment and excitement! It is the perfect platform for both
companies and prospects alike to connect and find one’s
professional match.”

19. On an average Friday in June, I had the privilege to job shadow a potential
career in municipal politics under the guidance of Semee Park, a legislative
deputy at LA City Hall. By chance, I shadowed her on a very happening day,
as I was fortunate enough to attend a press conference with the mayor on
the Orlando shootings, meet with one of the council members for a bit, and
spend the rest of the day at a city council meeting with the public. We spent
the majority of our time sharing an honest discussion on every positive and
negative aspect of her career, so that I could get a realistic and encompassing
view of her profession. Semee’s candor was very appreciated, as I learned
the importance of knowing the gossip around city hall, and saw for myself in
quite a literal sense, the “backroom politics” behind every bill. For example,
Semee never ceases to walk, making her profession an exhausting workout
as well. I learned more in those few hours of the true inner workings of big
city politics than any classroom or online forum could ever teach me, and for
that experience and knowledge, I am truly thankful for Betagig. Keeping this
valuable career in the back of my mind, I cannot wait to continue my journey
in search of a career and shadow more positions! Thank you Betagig!
