For a motion graphics unit, the student completed several tasks to learn skills in software like Illustrator and After Effects. These included defining types of motion graphics, creating images in Illustrator, designing a logo incorporating shapes, taking notes on a client brief, producing mood boards for inspiration, choosing fonts, and creating a final animation with effects. While some tasks were initially difficult, the student gained confidence through practice and research to successfully complete the final animation, which differed slightly from the original storyboard plan.
1. Unit 64 Motion Graphics Evaluation
For the first part of this unit; HA1 I had to define different types of motion graphics as well
as giving examples of each type and explaining what they were to show that I understood
the conventions for task 2 and 3.
For HA2 I used illustrator to create images of sportsmen playing 4 different sports. By doing
this I learnt the basic skills that I would need throughout the course, I found this difficult at
first but soon felt confident at using the software. We then used illustrator to design a basic
idea for a logo.
Next we had to draw 20 different shapes that we could include in our logo which we then
scanned onto the computer. For task 3 we had to take notes from the Salford sports
academy client who came into our lesson and told us what they wanted for the new logo.
We had to make sure that the logo had the words Sports Academy on it and there must be
no specific sport targeted as the college are involved with many different sports.
Task 4 was where I had to produce mood boards to see what other sports logos looked like
and the types of fonts and colours used. This helped me a lot as I got lots of ideas from the
logos.
For task 5 I had to look at fonts that were available to me to decide what style of font I
would use on my own logo.
We had to produce our final logo for task 6 which I found quite easy because of all of the
research that we had done in previous tasks.
Task 7 was the task where I learnt how to use After Effects, we listened to a tutorial from a
member of staff which taught us how to do some simple effects that looked professional, I
found this easy which gave me confidence on the software.
I had to create a story board for task 8 showing my plan for the moving Sports Academy
animation that I would be doing in task 9.
The final task; task 9 was creating the final animation on after effects which I believe went
well, my final animation was slightly different from the plan that I created on the mood
board as my original idea was too short and not very complicated.
