A 2-for-1 Deal
Qualities like patience, faithfulness, determination, endurance, perseverance,
focus, good study habits, good recall, and the ability to apply oneself to work are
all a part of your education. This period in life is a vital time to form character and
to build these qualities. It’s a two-for-one deal: You receive an education via the
information in your textbooks, but you also receive life education through learning
and applying the disciplines it requires to get that education.
Even if the specifics that you have to study don’t always seem relevant to everyday
life, or you wonder when you’ll ever use some of the knowledge you’re acquiring, it’s
important to remember that gaining knowledge is only part of why you’re studying.
The other very important part is learning how to study, how to persevere, how to
do good work and thorough research, how to present what you’ve learned and
discovered, how to think through problems, and how to complete a
task. You’re not just receiving an education; you’re
learning lessons that will benefit you in
the future and be an ever-present
springboard to success in
your adult life.
