How can you define hypothesis? What is the importance of hypothesis testing?
Hypothesis is a prediction based on a body of knowledge, scientific theory or observations.
Formulated, then tested to find if its is true or false.
Hypothesis testing is to test the prediction about the population parameters(characteristics ) that will either be accepted or rejected on the basis on the information obtained from the sample. The sample data provide the estimates of population parameters or characteristics.
The samples are randomly drawn from the population, and the observations within a group are independent of each other. The commonly used parametric tests are the Student's t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and repeated measures ANOVA.
In stating the level of significance (alpha), the researcher set up the rejection and acceptance region of null hypothesis. Rejection region is the critical region, the remaining region is the acceptance region.
