with quarry owner Mr. Xiong Yin in Jiujiang to ship best slates

QUARRY & FACILITIES
WHAT IS NATURAL SLATES?
Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock
derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of
clay or volcanic ash through low-grade regional metamorphism. It is
the finest grained foliated metamorphic rock. Foliation may not
correspond to the original sedimentary layering, but instead is in
planes perpendicular to the direction of metamorphic compression.
A very strong foliation is called "slaty cleavage". It is caused by strong
compression causing fine grained clay flakes to regrow in planes
perpendicular to the compression. When expertly "cut" by striking
parallel to the foliation, with a specialized tool in the quarry, many
slates will form smooth flat sheets of stone which have long been used

TO
HOW TO EXTRACT DURO ROOFING SLATES
Our slates are originally extracted from deposit at foot of Lushan Mountain. Unique
geographical location and pressure make the slates finely grained. Modern facilities applied
and hand splitting into required roof slates.
1. Quarry where raw stones come from
YIGROUP Slate's quarry is located at Jiujiang Jiangxi where is one of highest quality slate
deposits and beds in China. Our quarry is an open quarry and the slate is extracted in large
blocks cut with a diamond blade and jackhammers. The blocks are then transported by trucks
to the quarry fabrication plant.
2. Slate fabrication processes
© : The large slate blocks extracted from the quarry are cut into thick blocksCutting to blocks
with same length and width of the final slates be produced.
© : Experienced workers split each block into pieces with thickness twice ofSplitting to pieces
the final slates, then these pieces are then split in half to required thickness.
© : The cut edges of each slate are trimmed or beveled in orderTrimming or beveling the edges
to facilitate the passage of water over the slate once in place on the roof.
© : The methods of slate roof installation are developed, suchDrilling and further fabricating
as nail fixing, hook and aluminum profile, drilling and further fabrication on slates can be
optionally done.
3. Packing and shipping
The selected slate tiles will be packed with fumigated crates and stored before shipping.
Professional couriers and logistic staffs will handle all shipping affairs to your local seaport.

9. QUALITY & STANDARDS COMPLIANCE
All slates are produced under strict quality control. Our clients put them into
test referring to BS EN 12326 and ASTM C 406, they are compliant with
requirements in standards and A1-S1-T1 rated. 75 years will be expected to
last for roofing.

QUALITY
50YEAR WARRANTY
BS EN 12326-1:2004 is the new European standard for slate and stone
products for discontinues roofing or cladding. This replaces the old BS 680-
2:1971.
The product specification is mainly established against a series of tests
described in BS EN 12326-2: 2000 + A1 Slate and stone products for
discontinuous roofing - Part 2 Methods of test. The A1 indicates that it
includes amendments dated July 2004.
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a free acting
society, with the goal of keeping a high national standard for materials. The
ASTM standards for slate are somewhat regulated by members of the National
Slate Association (NSA) with members from leading American quarries.
-C119: Terminology Relating to Dimension Stone
-C120/C120M: Test Methods of Flexure Testing of Slate (Breaking Load,
Modulus of Rupture, Modulus of Elasticity)
-C121/C121M: Test Method for Water Absorption of Slate
-C217/C217M: Test Method for Weather Resistance of Slate
ASTM tests slate in three categories.
1) Breaking Load.
2) Water Absorption.
3) Depth of Softening.
Based on these three tests, Slate is put into 3 categories.
A. ASTM C 406 Grade S1: Expected service life in excess of 75 years.
B. ASTM C 406 Grade S2: Expected service life 40-75 years.
C. ASTM C 406 Grade S3: Expected service life 20-40 years.

12. SLATE ROOFING
A typical slate has a top, bottom and two sides. The top of the slate is known as the ‘ head ‘ and the
bottom the ‘ tail ‘ , the head sits on top of the roofing batten and the tail sits on top of the slate
beneath it. If the slate is not a uniform thickness the head is normally the thinner end and the tail
the thicker. The front of a slate will display riven ( bevelled ) edges on all sides and this is called the
‘ face ‘ , and the underneath is the ‘ bed ‘.
